Pros:
It makes the rear of the cabin a very nice place to be.
Keeps heat out well in summer.
Easy to keep an eye on stuff you carry on top.

Cons:
My *feeling* is that the car is less torsionally stiff than a tin roof would be. I get these creaking noises when mounting curbs etc. It always makes me paranoid about the glass cracking.
I suspect the heat loss thru the glass is greater than it would be thru the lined tin roof. That is, winter motoring probably less efficient.
You are forever paranoid about stuff dropping on it. I recently had ice eggs falling off a bike I was carrying :) A few weeks earlier, I got bombarded by conkers. But with a tin roof, you'd be worrying about your paint - so probably not greatly different.
Can't open the thing in summer.

Some good cons in this thread but as you can tell, in a logical sense, the pros beat out the cons by a wide margin. A very wide margin.

Yet buying this car is also a very emotional decision (or you'd be buying something way more economical). Nothing can beat what puts a smile on your face (as long as you're like me and don't care about back-seat passenger comfort. I'm buying this car for me, not them.). So I just took a few pics to share why I love the metal roof so much. Bad lighting because it's nighttime, but here. :)

Cant say I've ever seen it as I've never sat in the back - can imagine it brightens the cabin though?

Just to throw this out there, the Variable Light Pano might be a middle ground for those worried about heat and not the atheistic (granted this is Porsche marketing).

https://newsroom.porsche.com/en_US/...sunshine-control-christophorus-404-30175.html

The panoramic roof with Variable Light Control not only eliminates the need for headroom-reducing sunshades, but also offers effective heat protection. With a high-precision test setup that simulates 45 minutes of heat comparable to that under the South African sun on a summer day, the headroom remains nine degrees Celsius cooler than with the best roller shade available. And in Clear mode, the Taycan glass roof allows much more light into the interior than all previous tinted panoramic roofs.

Why do people keep complaining that the glass roof can’t be opened?
You can’t open a steel roof either.
:idea:Honestly, I don’t know of a single Taycan that even offers an opening roof.

Apologies if I missed it, but I don't think anyone mentioned a major pro - you can't mount bike/ski racks on top of a metal hood. Only the glass (as far as I've been told).

I prefer the hard top simply because the car looks much sexier with it. Glass roofs scream luxury to me, but my car (esp being the facelift) has a sharper, sportier look, and I much prefer the body color hard top.
-- I was advised to have the panoramic roof as only the option to mount a roof rack (to carry a light weight bike .)

Unfortunately this has proven a problem . 2 cracks .

I was advised that the glass roof was needed in order to specify roof rails, which it is, but I can't see why a sucker mounted rack wouldn't work on the sculpted roof if the suckers weren't where the ridges are.
Since I didn't want either glass or rails an easy choice for me.

Just to chime in on a few comments..

I do not feel the VLC is a party track. I think it is legit especially if you have photosensitive skin. It also really helps to reduce the greenhouse effect on a bright day. Here are two pictures of the sun thru matte and clear. Matte is almost reminiscent of eclipse glasses.

Also regarding the Burmester…. Not an audiophile, but I do have it and I listen to it LOUD. No rattles or vibrations from the roof (other places, yes, but not the roof). Sound quality is amazing. Beyond pleased. I also have the insulated glass which I think further improves the sound and heat variables.
