Passenger display ACTIVE while OFF

I have the passenger display on my MY23 off most of the time. My daughter was tapping the dash along with the beat of a song this evening and when she happened to tap the blacked out passenger display, we heard the sound that plays when you are interacting with the screens. The tap/haptic sound. She playfully tapped a bunch and my music source changed from radio to Apple Music. I turned on the passenger display at which time we realized her taps were actually navigating the menus even though the screen was turned off. She had changed the source and opened the settings menu on a black screen.

That’s a pretty solid fail.

Corner case never tested by the contractor/supplier Porsche hired to write the software. The feature request probably was to "turn off the passenger display", not "turn off all functions of passenger screen".

To be honest, I've never turned off my passenger display. I suspect the vast majority of Taycan drivers never turn it off either. Even when locked, the passenger display shows me what media is playing.

Mine gets turned off, but am pretty sure that at worst, tapping it just turns it back on again.

This is hilarious ? This shows they develop software and test the software on emulators. Simple things like this will never be noticed by Porsche themselves

For me this happens in standby mode. But if I turn it off vs standby, I need to bring the display menu up to turn it back on. Tapping does not wake it up from off, only from standby.

I turn it off because it is so bright in the car at night. In the Pacific Northwest US, this time of year, my morning and evening commutes are largely in the dark. It’s just a lot of cabin light to have yet another screen on that I can’t do anything with. I may just leave it on standby with the taycan logo up to prevent this in the future since it will wake on tap from standby.

I could not get it come on by tapping the screen so I looked in the manual. The prominent on/off symbol at the bottom of the screenused for charging and temperature when clicked brings up a menu that enables the passenger screen to be off or on.

Tested mine tonight...

Turning on/off the way you note works fine.

But when off (from the menu) I can also tap the display and it comes on. Display is "off" - no backlight etc. (Car's a 2022).

Tapping it on from “off” vs “standby” only works for me if a passenger is seated. There seems to be some correlation to whether you have a person in the seat or not. Note that I haven’t done any comprehensive test here but clearly behaves differently with a passenger than when I reach across the empty seat.

If I tap with no passenger it comes on with the Taycan splash screen.

Tap with a passenger and it comes on fully (with the last screen used).
