PDLS+ Auto Mainbeam Dip

Hi all….

with those of you withbase lights or PDLS+, how sensitive is the dipping function? My experience yesterday on an unlit UK dual carriageway was woeful. Frankly dangerous. The car does not react to oncoming cars to dip the beam. But it seems to see cars I’m following quite well.

I’ve read on other regional forums that at least the LED Matrix dipping works well. That said, whatever lighting system you have, I’m intrigued to know how well it works.
(my sensor often fogs up on a cold morning… perhaps I have a faulty sensor).

LED Matrix - never had it before but have it on my Taycan and I absolutely love it - they are so good at lighting so much of the road without distraction from on-coming or followed traffic. I am a convert now.

There will always be a little of the odd flashing but that's more undulation of the road related - at least in my opinion - the lights themselves 10 out of 10 on my car.

I haven't received my car yet but, I remembered this thread which was raised by someone else asking about the effectiveness of the auto main beam. Worth a quick scan to see if it helps?

I find the high beam dipping works very well... more often than not I want the high beam and the car won't allow.

Auto dipping needs to be enabled so make sure you have the setting active. It's in vehicle setting under exterior lights.

Do you have martrix LED? Could it be that the Matrix LED is active? In that case the high beam wont dip, but rather the car will selectively block out areas where there is a car in front.

I have matrix and they work perfectly.

Ask your dealer to check and calibrate.

Check that you don't have the beam set for Continental Europe (inverted).

Its a completely different tech. Lights are always on full beam regardless but depending on the situation -street lights (dipped beam only), speed (> 39 mph), weather conditions, oncoming traffic (individual leds in the matrix are switch off to prevent dazzle), unlit roads and travelling above 39 mph then in addition to full beam road signs are lit up by individual leds when detected. if you have night vision then further features are available (e.g. lighting up subjects).

For standard LED lights then the feature set is not as extensive but regardless the switch between high and low beam should be instantaneous. As mentioned before, get your lights checked out as it is likely a calibration error.

Does that include the sensor? I hope not. And that the OPC can recalibrate it.
Doesn’t seem like any non matrix PDLS+ have chimed in; similar to the (but helpfully added) thread from MrBlueSky.

Non-matrix PDLS+ here. My lights work as expected with oncoming traffic. No issues with high beam staying on when they shouldn’t.

Long lights stays on oncoming traffic... also stayed "blue" when I was following cars infront of me.
Ligths switched back to green few times, but mostly stayed blue.

Maybe another uPdate problem?

Just to add to what everyone else has said.
My PDLS+ lights work excellently.

Green Beam symbol with A inside should be lit for it to work automatically.
They come on promptly in the dark at the correct speed and off promptly with any on coming lights / following rear lights.
When the beam comes on it nicely pops up and zooms out (focusing in the distance) at according to the speed. I like them.
Matrix were not available when I ordered my car.

Looks that I havent made myself clear enough.
Full beam (long) should be shortened (back to green) when someone is coming from opposite side…or when you are coming closer to the car in front of you, right?
It worked perfectly last winter…while today, it doesn’t switch from blue back to green…

For standard LED PDLS+ - yes, you are correct.

Like I suggested earlier, have your dealer check it out and replace the errant sensor as necessary.
