PMCC+ oddity

Has anyone else noticed that the PMCC+ (the Porsche charger with the interactive screen) will sometimes recognize that it's connected to a Taycan, and sometimes it doesn't know what car it's connected to. I took a picture showing the screen with Taycan and the calculated range showing, but that seems to happen to me about 50% or less of the time. Any thoughts on why it's not consistent? BTW, This is connected to a US 110v plug (level 1 charging). I'm aware that there are threads discussing the recall of the level 2 plug and possible replacement of this charger, but until that happens, this is working for me and it integrates with the MyPorsche app.

Porsche's own technical documents recomends against using 110/120V charing for daily use…

Right!! I don't understand how Porsche could suggest using 120V charging through at least May and likely longer. It seems to me that they are risking replacing EV batteries themselves since there must have been a reason for this warning.

If you have Plug and Charge enabled on your car then your PMCC will handshake with the car negating the need to supply a PIN. It should then always recognise your car as 'authorised ' and display as 'Taycan' on the lcd screen.

Well, that was my point, plug and charge, or the handshake the charger and the car do (not sure which picks up the vehicle Name and what else) seems to be inconsistent. I assumed that it was the sw in the charger, but I guess it could also be the car. Sometimes it works, like in the photo, and sometimes it just shows connected and doesn't report the range. I have seen the same behavior when I've used that charger to charge our BMW i3. Doesn't pull car data, just battery information to do the proper power delivery.

Plug and charge is enabled in the car. It works great when I go to a DCFC. Just connect the EA CCS1 plug, wait about 30 seconds as it "communicates", and then it starts charging. Not sure if plug and charge is used for the home charger during it's handshake. I bet there's some proprietary field data exchanged between the 2 devices that provides that info to the charger, which sometimes displays and sometimes doesn't (bug).

As to the L1 charger being connected, I can only imagine Porsche doesn't recommend it because it a) takes too long and doesn't help with the fast charging advertising or b) keeps the vents open in the front (possibly risking damage to the heat exchangers behind them) or c) sometimes activates the fans to cool the batteries which might cause more wear on the fan bearings.
Regardless, Porsche is apparently recommending it now with the 240v cable recall, but honestly, with the sw update that down-rated the charger to avoid plugs melting, it wasn't too far off 120v charging times anyway, long home charging sessions with the Porsche charger are sort of a thing right now and have been for the last year. But that's off topic from my question. Wondering if anyone else has seen the charger not displaying the vehicle type, or have you see other vehicle names displayed when charging other cars, other than "Porsche Taycan"?

3 years ago when I last looked at this and specifically from the PMCC perspective I noticed that a PID was used to authorise and identify the car. The PID looks very similar to a VIN and has a default label value of "Taycan".

If you log into your PMCC and browse the authorised vehicles list you will find it and any others that have been authorised such as your i3. You could remove these entries and start over.

I know the PMCC has some history in NA but in Europe we have had no issues to speak off and no downgrading of the ampage either. . I have the 22kW version.

There are no other entries, besides the Taycan. The missing vehicle brand and model happen when plugged into the Porsche, which is why I suspect something causing the communication problem. It mostly works, but sometimes doesn't. I'm suspecting the EVSE since it seems to have been plagued with issues based on the forum history, but I can't rule out the car itself. So maybe if I'm the only one who's seen or noticed this, it might just be a problem with my equipment and needs to visit the dealer for service.
