Car has (finally) reached dealer and I will take possession in a few days, and now have to pull trigger on PPF or no PPF. I've not done it before on a pretty low-slung car (Model S, hold down the boo-ing) and hadn't suffered much road damage in 10 years, many before that either, but that was the lowest one. I know the Taycan has quite the wedge nose, just wanted to take a small poll and see what others' experience was/is.

Thanks!

Well, voting started before I finished editing the choices. My bad. Newb at polls. Sorry for the sloppy answer choices. You get the point.

First time Porsche owner. Not really a “car guy”. I didn’t get PPF.

My recommendation, absolutely get at least full front PPF. Taycan is much more prone to paint chips.

Now I just need to figure out when to give up my car to get chips fixed, let the paint cure and apply PPF.

No PPF, get one nick every ~10k miles on my cars. Don’t care, neither have any of the buyers of my cars. I will say, the paint on the Taycan seems softer than previous Porsches I’ve owned, as the one nick I’ve gotten is larger/deeper than usual.

I'm thinking about getting the Paint Protection Spray - if anyone out there has that, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Don't have PPF, but have the best ceramic coating I could get around here. No rock chips worth mentioning so far (10300 km), washing is easier than without, quite happy with it.

I went with stealth PPF and I get just as many compliments about the matte finish as I do about the car itself. It's also helped me be less paranoid but in all honesty time has been the best anecdote to help me relax and truly enjoy this amazing machine.

Is that available in the US now? I would love to see that coming to the US. It has not been available up to now. I believe it needed some kind of EPA approval, which kept it out of the US.

Appears there are a handful on the clarity coat website. I’m currently considering rose city dips if anyone has heard of them. Just for the clear stuff. Not plastidip.

Did a partial PPF (Xpel) on the front. Bumper, fenders, hood, mirrors. Full ceramic as well. This protects against the vast majority of what happens on the road. Someone wails on a door with their door in a parking lot and PPF won't prevent a dent. Did the front on my Tesla S. Front bumper was showing a fair number of dings so I had the original PPF (also Xpel) taken off and new put on. In 27,000 miles, a good portion on the highway, there was one chip that had gotten through the PPF otherwise the paint looks like new. Doors, with no PPF, remain untouched. Worth every penny.

I didn't bother.
I haven't had it on any car for the last 50 years.
Cars I did long high speed journeys in got a few big stone chips and broken headlights but I don't do that any more.
Car now 6 months old and still pristine but probably less than 25% driven on on motorways so far.

I’ve put 23k miles on my Taycan, I drive about 50/50 on interstate highways and backroads. This car attracts rock chips like I’ve never seen. After a week I had about 7 rock chips on the front bumper and hood so I got PPF. It’s been a life saver. I’ve still had one extremely unlikely rock chip that punctured the PPF and left quite a deep cut on the hood, but that would’ve been catastrophic if I didn’t get the PPF. (These chips happen despite me not driving behind semis, construction trucks, big jeeps/trucks) it’s just inevitable in the VA area.

It shoots up a lot of rocks with its wide tyres, also factory PPF on rear fenders will get yellow over time and look ugly. I got mine installed a bit too late but still I’d call that a good investment. Especially in rough climates and for back roads with a lot of dirt and debris.
