Hello,

new to 2001 4S ownwership. From my internet search, it sounds like the main benefit of Porsche connect is streaming Apple Music and being able to change charging features outside the car.

for ?300 usd a year, that doesn’t sound like much benefit for the money. Am I missing something or is there more value to buy the Porsche connect service?

Thanks

More to it than that and Apple Music is a separate subscription (you can use your existing one) but not part of Connect. Apple is native to the PCM as is Spotify.

Enhanced mapping, traffic, data services enhanced radio etc

I would advise to have it than not.

As W1NGE stated you don't need Connect for Apple music.
You just log on to your existing Apple music account.

I don't think Connect is worth the subscription cost once the initial free period expires.

Is it correct that without having Connect you cannot listen to internet radio stations?

I would imagine so but not sure. Remember you need an active data service for Porsche Connect (not the separate data package option) and so part and parcel of the subscription fees

To add: my free connect subscription stopped a few months ago. No internet radio since.

So, for the music fanatics (like me): if you like to listen to music in the car a lot, and use international radio stations (I listen for example daily to bluegrass stations in the US, jazz/blues in France, classical specialty stations in a/o Germany, Australia, the Netherlands) you will likely want to spend $300 or so for having Connect services.

Especially during vacations, and charging abroad, I find it also very useful to check the charging status through the app while away from the car and pre-heat or cool in advance (in real time, not pre-set, which works without Connect) when I am returning to the car. So yes, I re-ordered Connect.

Mine's due for renewal next month. Am in two minds.

I don't use streaming music services.

I do like up to date maps.

I do like to see SoC.

I have had a few instances where remote park assist got me out of a scrape.

I use cabin preconditioning a lot.

Trip data from the app is "useful" (more "interesting" really).

Locating the car is marginally handy.

As is being able to lock the car remotely.

Tight one but think it will be worth keeping going for me.

I’m nearly 4 months from when my Connect services lapsed and, mostly, I don’t miss it at all (the IONITY app tells me how my charge is going when it’s plugged into their services for example). However, the last few weeks with some unreasonably early starts, having to schlep outside to activate preheat for the cabin has been a most unwelcome task!

Quick update.

Let mine lapse to see what happened, and have renewed it ?

SoC and remote locking were useful within a few days of my services lapsing. They went grey in the app.

I know I will miss preconditioning.

Remote parking looked like it might work without connect services (didn't try it).

It's not cheap IMO, and I do wonder how much it actually costs Porsche to provide (likely not that much per unit... They are providing it for 10yrs on new cars now I believe)...but I'm in for another year.

Here the overview (german) over Connect CARE and connect.
Care is in lused with the car for 10 years and secures obline updates and connectivity with Porsche servers, as connect needs to be paid for after 3 years:
