No, but between Porsche and Apple to make the tech work 100% of the time will be 0%.
sadly, your keyfob also doesn't work 100% :) The reason they put a physical key in it.

Let's not talk hyperbole. There is no absolute perfection, but let's not avoid innovation because we don't understand thing :)

The backup for PAAK when it doesn’t work is a password. For my Mach E, you have a passcode to get in the door and another one to start the car.
Finally, something that little writing tablet under the climate control screen would be good for.

phone as a key is a game changer

valet and car wash get a RFID/NFC credit card - keep it in the glove box so it’s always with the car or in your wallet

the failure modes you are worried about are nearly non-existent and no worse than fobs - but way less frequent

your complaining about your phone being unreliable but love car play and want it for your car - hint you’ll have your phone with you - why not have it unlock and start the car

it’s one less thing to carry with you as you already have your phone

it’s not an app it works more like a fob - phone as a key aspires to work like a FOB. not an app

tesla’s done it since at least 2017 / I miss it - it’s super convenient you’ll love it

added bonus you can “send” your key to family friends so they have access to your car with out physically handing them a key - scenario - airport drop off - i dead drop my car in short term parking have some else come get it no need to physically get them a key - just send it to them

security??? OMG you guys are really reaching for extreme FUD now - vs current state of the art FOB security it’s certainly no worse and factually dramatically better and more secure than a FOB will ever be!

never seen so much FUD - this stuff is not just tech for tech sake - it’s been pretty well vetted and certainly no worse than FOBs and again one less thing you have to carry with you and consolidated into a device you’ll have with you already

it works at least as well as comfort access - probably better and is no worse for failure modes - ie yeah if it doesn’t work neither would comfort access

the FUD here is amazing - makes me sad for humanity

That's not true.
First of all to open the wallet it asks you to re-authenticate.
To actually see the data, it asks for your password.
Every time they try to make a payment, it checks for your authentication method.

It's the same with digital keys. Unless they steal my face or my password, they cannot use it, even if they steal my phone.
And iPhones at least can be disabled remotely, with 1 click, if stolen, directly from your pc or watch

A digital key is more secure, not less secure :)
This^^
Spent 4 years on the Mach E forum and security of PAAK was definitely not a concern.

It’s safer than a key fob.

A repeater can be used by thieves to copy your signal and access your car.

That's precisely what I fail to grasp. I have never used my phone as a key, but what is the net benefit of it? Not having to carry the fob around? Or is it more the safety net of being able to open your car in case the fob gets locked inside? The latter shouldn't be an issue, though, as the Porsche app already allows unlocking the car.

I ask this out of genuine curiosity.
I used to have a Ford Mach-E and I can’t tell you how many times I forgot the key or just couldn’t find it. I own many jackets and bags and after a while you get used to not even thinking about it anymore. I’d even argue during summer where you wear an outfit where you don’t have space for the key in a loose shorts-pocket you don’t have to worry about losing it. There numerous situations you can think of - it’s one of those things you don’t know you need until you have it. Can’t explain it better than that. I thought it was a gimmick at first too but it works so incredibly well to just have your phone with you. The Ford’s have a digital keypad on the outside of the B-Pillar to open the door in case your phone is dead and a password to start the car. This is the reason I’m sure the taycan will not get it as it’s not equipped with this nor designed for it. Getting locked out would be very easy in the current gen Taycans if they introduced this.

as predicted - none of the "faults" of a Digital Key actually exist - it was all FUD…you don't have to use a Digital Key - but it's no worse than a FOB and quite a bit better. And any "failure modes" that remain would also be equally likely with a FOB…

here directly from Porsche - it's a top-tier implementation of Digital Key - even works when the phone's battery is dead…and considerations for Valets, service visits, car washes…

So the EV Cayenne will have this Porsche Digital Key which looks like it's the Apple Key that was mentioned a while ago. I highly doubt it will come to our Taycans, but it would be freaking awesome if it did, especially since the technology to make this work doesn't sound like it should be retrofitted or is complicated. The car key already can unlock the doors in proximity.
