In Ireland, when I locked in my Turbo S order – in mid 2022 – the base cost before options was €174,000. Now the base cost of a J1.2 Turbo S is €230,500.

Porsche has a lot of space to offer discounts!

My dealer reckoned they as a dealership, were losing about £8k on my car.

Of course no way I'll know for sure.

They can't be selling all these cars at a loss, afterall, how much do the optional extras actually cost Porsche?

Alarming?
For dealers & Porsche?
For buyers?
For all - and in particular private buyers!

Porsches typically don't get discounted or have mass pre registrations - until the Taycan came along amidst a confused EV market place.

Perhaps the solution is to drop the list price by 20% and curtail discounting bolstered by a more supportive government.

These are discounts being applied to MY2025 cars, but i was told the truly big discounts ended last month. That of course might not be the case.
That's the headline but then the pre-registrations started.

I also wouldn't trust or be that sympathetic towards the dealer - what they didn't tell you that for every car shifted they got a kickback.

I also think the tactic has backfired and the market for these cars now expects a discount which will be difficult to avoid particularly if metal has to be shifted (that's a given).

To see Macan EVs being discounted so soon after launch is a worry.

Definitely, not great to see the Macan getting discounted so soon. Having driven one, i was impressed by it.

The HUD is insane, must have option IMHO.

I think the generally negative attitude toward EV's by the media in general doesn't help. No EV's won't work for everyone and ICE is still a fantastic option as engines get more efficient, but we need to get rid of the "it's electric so it's therefore rubbish by default" attitude.

I bought my Taycan as its a brilliant car period. If it had an engine, i wouldnt be able to afford it, I just took advantage of the stupid EV mandates.

I suspect it’s close to the square root of very little but it’s possible that the customisation makes their production line as well as any software implementation required to run these options much less efficient.

Personally I detest the customisation approach as its inefficient and excessive markups for upgrades rarely justify the added utility. This is especially true for things which are standard on cars which cost a tiny fraction of a Porsche and should just be standard. I’ve nothing against paying for unique or more sophisticated tech like an active suspension but not 1k for a blind spot monitor or an adaptive cruise control where the margins must be astronomical.

From a taste perspective I also find it a bit of a challenge. I remember looking at some used Taycans before I chose my current car and was aghast at some of the combinations people must have put together.

There is a reason why most people would not let middle aged men (in some cases potentially colour blind) who dress like Jeremy Clarkson with no taste or experience with design or easthetics, decorate their houses, otherwise we would all be sitting around on red and black leather sofas embossed with our initials in front of glass tinted coffee tables with chrome surrounds while watching 100inch tvs clad in carbon fibre, projecting on the back of leather covered walls logos of the tv manufacturer in all the colours of the rainbow. :giggle:

Could this also be a reason for the high depreciation?!

Just like they killed diesel cars …

Right wing dominated press hates the woke ideology of EVs … never a positive headline.

One of my favourite stories was about a man who would never buy an EV … because after a 400 mile journey the seats gave him a sore back.

@W1NGE Tell me why big price discounts are bad for potential buyers of a car. Please.
How does paying more for a car benefit the buyer?

I just see it as new technology that offers a different user experience.

I'm still a massive petrol head, but i have a balanced mind when it comes to automotive future.

Synthetic fuels, efficient ICE, hydrogen (maybe) and EV's will or should all play a part.

so how does one find these discounts. Are you looking at "new" on the used car selector of the website? or just walking into a dealer and talking?

My car i saw on the Porsche website advertised under new cars. I'd seen it at £94k ish (20k discount) then spotted it at £81k later that day or a day later (not sure) and contacted the dealer.

Mine is a relatively early MY2025.

But like I say, the big deals on 0 owner cars maybe over now, with pre-reg / secondhand being the best bet.
