The "US"?

Federal Government under current administration is pro EV. $7,500 tax credit
Electric power generation companies (represented under EPRI) are pro EV
Many states are pro EV and offer additional incentives
Many private companies are pro EV and offer incentives/free charging

Some State representatives are anti-EV as a way to gain support from voters (e.g. the article you posted). Note also this is a "proposed" law.

I think sometimes people in Europe forget how large US states are and that they are essentially large countries in themselves. 'The US' get's bundled as one entity whereas the reality is each state has a huge amount of its own quirks and autonomy from the Federal Government.

Either way: the proposed Bill is not a good move. Let's hope it doesn't get through.

It is important to note that the proposed bill covers federal and government property that is leased to the state of North Carolina, not private property. Also, it is only a proposed bill, and will have no affect outside the state of North Carolina, if the bill ever even faces a vote in that state legislature.

This is proposed by one state representative from a southern state with a very conservative population base. This type of bill is political pandering that caters to a type of population base we we see in rural America and plays to the type of trash that Trump as brought into the political arena in the US - it is embarrassing and pathetic.

The irony now is that electric cars are being made in the reddest of states now - Texas - and the so called "father of the EV" is now claiming to be a Republican. Mr. Kidwell in North Carolina may not be up to date on who is leading the EV charge these days!

Finally, we should probably change the title of this thread since it is not entirely accurate.

As someone intimately familiar with the utility transportation electrification efforts in Oregon, I can assure you that this bill is certainly not only outside the mainstream, but we have law now in place in Oregon that pushes transportation electrification very VERY hard in the next 8 years.

One can cynically note that states may have an easier path putting renewables into the grid and into transportation much more easily than other carbon emitters, but that's a thread for another day. Wait til you see some of the cynical bills being floated in WV!

Politics appears to have entered the brand of which EV you drive, not whether you drive one. Matt drives a Mach-E and does have a number of excellent reasons (as do many intelligent and rational other people) to avoid Tesla and Musk's cult of personality.

Honestly, if knee-jerk Republicans run out and buy Teslas and while California is utterly full of Teslas, let's say liberals now rush to buy union made EVs (Mach-Es, Lightnings, ...) there are more EVs on the road and my work here is done.

Two words for NC Politicians in NC who support this bill……JACK ASS!

I guess big oil is padding the pockets of some NC politicians!

Sad!

agreed, the poster injected a lot of his myopic political views into his remarks.
the comment lacks a clear vision of the politics of places like NC or even TX. sure there are luddite like people like the proponents of this legislation but the broad brush labeling just exhibits the biases of the remarks.
I wonder if the proponents of this bill will also demand that all the costs of parking supplied by businesses need to be disclosed by the businesses, providing free parking for all car owners is inherently biased against those who arrive via public transport, walking or bicycling.
the bill is absurd, is going nowhere, and certainly does not reflect the mainstream views of the residents of NC.
must be user error of some sort

Not very surprising at this point. There's always the crowd who personally do not want change or more likely financially incentivized against it. At least it's limited to Government sites. I would think you can get around by offering it at a nominal price ($0.01/kwH) to get around the law. Then it's not "no charge".

Further proof that USA politicians can't solve energy problems ... but they sure can create them!

The four sponsors are in deep red parts of NC...the kind where the squatted poverty truck squads go to charging stations and intentionally block the chargers. Especially down in Union and Onslow counties.

Unfortunately, it doesn't even go that deep. They're just idiots. Kidwell's wife (or it could be Moss' wife) has a Mach-E. Again, they're just not smart people. I still have a relatively large political foothold in the Triangle area and the only reason this is even coming up is because Toyota and Apple both have offered to fully subsidize the cost to local counties to install charging stations and these four losers are acting like it's the end of the world.

This goes nowhere.
