Hello, a few months ago, I bought a Taycan Turbo with 30,000 km directly from an official dealer in Germany. After two months, I noticed that both front discs were cracked. On the right disc, a large part of the smooth surface is even chipped away. Has anyone experienced a similar problem with the Taycan? I would appreciate any help.

I don't currently have Porsche Approved although I should have. I was in Germany twice to check the car in person. When I came to pick up the car (already paid), just before signing, they brought a new sales contract with a lower price, because I won't get Porsche Approved because German Porsche Approved cannot be transferred to the Czech Republic (this was confirmed to me by the Czech service). With the fact that in the Czech Republic I can apply for Porsche Approved after 90 days when the car is registered in the Czech Republic. The problem is that the cracks appeared in the meantime.

What did the German dealer say?
"Thank you very much for your detailed email. We are very sorry that you are having such problems with your Taycan!
We have now checked all of our documents and notes. Before we handed the vehicle over to you, we carried out a detailed used car check. During this test, we did not notice any irregularities, abnormalities or damage to the vehicle and the brake system including the brake discs and brake blocks. We have handed over the vehicle to you in a technically perfect condition. I am very sorry, we cannot really support you and cannot accept any liability. Our experts strongly suspect that an object got stuck between the brake disc and brake pad, which probably caused these marks/damages."

Wow! Cautionary tale about the possible failure of PSCB rotors. Personally it looks like maybe the surface got compromised and then rust formed, popping off the coating?

Sorry to see that but looks like rust under the shiny surface, Porsche will say its normal wear and you need to pay a ton of cash to replace it. My rear disc is scratched too and they say its ok, but yours looks bad. Check on ebay.

I see this at the the track from time to time. These have failed due to abnormal use, meaning beyond spirited driving -track duty. This is why I would never spec them - ever. They are superb for street use, but not durable. Sorry that you will have to absorb the cost of new rotors.

I had PSCB brakes on my previous 4S and while it is a very interesting technology – I was not a fan from a cost perspective.

What I didn't realise at the time I optioned them is that they cost about 50% of what the PCCB's (carbon ceramic) to replace but only last about 30% longer than iron discs.

I appreciate that replacement due to wear on an EV is unlikely – but they aren't quiet the "savings" from PCCBs that they first appear.

I doubt the Porsche approved would have helped here, too: more than likely they will tell it is a consumable, wear&tear, and not a warranty case...

Hey everyone. I just bought a 2020 porsche cayenne. I know this is a taycan forum but i have a similar issue to the pic posted by andb. Do i need to replace the brake pads? Is there a rock or some impurity that is causing friction with the brake disc or is it normal? The other 3 brake discs have no issues just this front left one. I’m abit worried couse i’d rather change the break pads rather than a PSCB disc.

Do you hear any grinding?

Is the disc surface smooth?
From your pic that seems unlikely.
You should also check the inner surfaces for similar.
When the disc surface coating delaminates changing the pads will not solve that, disc replacement is necessary.
Porsche Marketing about increased durability and service life is baloney. Brake disc coatings are cosmetic. Shiny shiny shiny.

The breaks make no sound currently only maybe the first break when i leave the garage there is a really small sound after that nothing.Where the brown/redish lines are the surface is smooth to the touch. I’ve seen that there is a small chip to the coating i assume. Could that cause the issue? I would doubt it tho couse there are 3 brown lines on the disc that are not on the same trajectory as the chip. Should I try to check the brake pads to see if there is a small rock or some impurity and if there is then just clean it up and just drive it until the disc becomes bad and replace it? Couse curently I’m thinking there is something there and if its cleaned it wont “engrave” the lines deeper as its curently smooth

I’ve attached the zoomed picture of the chip.

Would it be possible to hone PSCB Rotors onmachine to remove carbide coating and use original pads?

Anyone found front replacement iron rotors?

My pscb are peeling coating from rotor and underneath iron is significqntly showing. Though no braking issue for now .

I am thinking how to resolve problem on long term without buiying same rotors with same problem. Anyone with some expertise or common sense could propose solution? Smaller rotors are not option due 21 wheel size and brake caliper.

Any suggestions would be helpfull for many future PSCB owners.
