The new Taycan 2024 is advertised as PVTS+ as standard. The car should come with 2 driver cards and then activated by subscription to Vodafone Automotive services for the tracking service.

I didn’t receive any driver cards with the car on collection and have been charged £522 for parts to fitted as well as the subscription. If it comes as standard (it’s already available in the app) what is allegedly being fitted or is this another dealer ripoff method. I’ve heard £2000 being charged by some.

As far as I remember, my MY22 came with PVTS ready to be activated on subscription, no installation charge. The driver cards are more like key fobs and come in individual small plastic packets, often left at handover in the glovebox, cupholder, centre armrest compartment or front door bins.

That’s what i thought should happen. Not in my case unfortunately. Service experience so far has been less than impressive tbh.

MY2025 is the new Taycan.

I suspect PVTS is now fully integrated into the PCM and no need for cards.

In my J1 car PVTS was factory fitted so just needed to activate the subscription. For J1.2 Porsche changed it to a dealer fit option, so it cost me £620 for fitting and the Vodafone subscription on top.

Seems Porsche are going around in circles with this. Originally (pre Taycan) PVTS was a separate box which required installation, J1 Taycan at launch had the integration with PCM and 2 drivers cards which required pairing to the PCM (mine went off line after 2 weeks and required re-pairing), between J1 launch and end of J1 it was still integrated and no pairing needed - just an active subscription, and now it appears to have changed again for J1.2.

A year ago my dealer told me that it was going to be dropped across the range but clearly that hasn't happened either.

Doesn't seem to be a requirement these days for some insurers so I may ditch next time around as the fobs are a pain.

J1.2 owner's guide makes no mention of Drivers Cards so integration is finally here. Activation still remains a requirement.

I never bother with it. Waste of time.

I've yet to find an insurer who insists on it being operational that is cheaper than the competition when you factor in the annual subs. And am seeing less and less insisting on it.

So PVTS+ is still available on the J1.2?
There is a section in the J1.2 manual for it so I'm guessing so and I think some UK forum members already have one with it but I don't see a reference to the cards - just the subscription.

Described in the MY21 manual but not MY25 and potentially not in MY24 either. I have MY23 which has the cards.

Similar to me then only mine was slightly cheaper At £522 according to the spec The PVTS+ was already in the J1.2 it even states it on the website as a standard and there was no option for it in the choice options of spec. The Porsche app has most of the same features as the Vodafone connected app other than the two Vodafone connected dongles I now have. A the vehicle was trackable from the off, surely it’s just a pairing of the two thinner issued plastic fobs and the subscription? I’ll talk to Porsche this morning and try and get an answer. Thanks

the only reason I have it is for Instance reason. I just find it strange that the Vodafone app and the my Porsche app have pretty much the same functionality from the off without any subscription and cards. The car was trackable, visible, controllable and alarms could be set from the app. The only separation was the driver fob being a separate entity. This leads me to believe the pvts is already fitted and functioning from day 1. I can’t see what where the additional cost and parts come from- It wouldn’t surprise me if the dealership got it wrong as they have been wrong on many occasions so far in my experience of dealing with them. The service level Is not what I expected of the brand at all it’s been pretty lame tbh this is my first Porsche. The car is great the service is not.

It would appear that they have deactivated the sensor that communicated with the my Porsche app it’s now not working -

my dealer was pretty clear Porsche had moved the goalposts on the hardware J1.2 vs J1, evidently the new Cayenne's are the same. For the insurers I believe it is the 'driver presence' fobs that are important.

I hate the fobs but I did not have the luxury of multiple insurance quotes, I was only able to get one offer of insurance, even Porsche Insurance (where I am a long term customer via my GT4) declined because the Taycan was too powerful, too high value and, wait for it, too expensive to repair. I pointed out the irony of Porsche branded insurance not offering policies on their own vehicles.....

Admiral no longer state it as a requirement nor do you have to list factory options which historically has been a faff.

No fobs / card with PVTS in Taycan now.

I've just tried to sort out drive away insurance through Porsche.

They are demanding a tracker, whereas Aviva, my current insurers on the C63, do not.

I have a very minor issue with my C63 and am unable to sell it right now, so can not guarantee it will no longer be my responsibility, by the time collection day comes about.

So either delay collection (if possible) or faff around trying to get a short term policy on the C63 and then transfer my main policy onto the Taycan.

Or I pay for the Vodafone subscription.
