It seems every week someone is complaining about the range on their Taycan. 199 Miles on a full charge?!?! 220 Miles with 100% SOC?!?!

Right, I get it, I've complained a fair bit about the display (you guys call in the guess-o-meter lol) only showing 375KM when I get in the car. One I test drove had only 50 or 60KM hahaha wow, it was surprisingly low but still not bad to drive. Anyways, something just occurred to me. ?I'm on a Porsche forum! I can't remember the last 911 owner I spoke to, ever, ever, mention their gas milage to me. Ever. Why would they? They're driving a 911 for God sakes! They tell me what a joy it is to drive, own, how reliable it is, the heads it turns, how it makes them feel, but never, at least to me, have they complained they only get 200 Miles on a tank! I googled a 911 GT3 and got this:

Range, city/highway (miles) 253.50 / 304.20
Porsche 911 GT3 / GT3 RS Features and Specs - Car and Driver

Yes, I know charging takes longer than filling up a tank, we all know this and we couldn't care less about that stat (personally, I appreciate the break) but you guys are driving one of the, if not the best EV on the market, and Heaven Forbid it doesn't get the range of a Prius‼

Sorry for the rant!

P.S. Posting in KM is far more impressive! 280 Miles = 450KM ?

I think a lot of this has to do with people still a little scared of the whole battery longevity. Which I do think is very overblown but for a lot of us is just new territory. Another thing is we have some people posting crazy range of almost 250-270 on a turbo while others can only get 200. With this then reigniting the whole longevity aspect.

My 4S gets just under 300 miles of highway driving at 75mph on a full charge in a mild climate (no cold winters).

The problem is not the mileage per charge compared to a full tank of gas, it is the time to charge. If you don't have a 350 kw DC charger near you and an hour to spare, you need a level 2 AC home charger that takes about 10 hours to fully charge. This compares to 5 minutes at a gas station around the corner.

Of course, as BEVs become a larger percentage of vehicles on the road, the number of gas stations will decline and the number of DC fast chargers will increase.

Those considering their first BEV would do well to understand these realities and relate them to their use case before they take the plunge.

It seems to be that when people buy a 911 they don't worry about fuel economy, just performance and driving experience...but when buying a Taycan they want driving experience, performance AND fuel economy.

Perhaps it's because so many Taycan drivers are first-time-Porsche owners, able to buy the Porsche because of tax breaks? So they're coming from Tesla or more standard ICE vehicles?

The crux of the matter is simple to me - if you want range, get a Tesla long range vehicle.

I bought a huge heavy Porsche EV which happens to be able to shift all that weight very quickly. For that I get about 200-240 miles per full charge which, to me, is a great trade off of economy vs performance.

True, and drive it like a Tesla for long range.

I've driven a Plaid with 21's and in normal driving, no full acceleration, I got 232Wh/Km with their 99KWh battery which equates to ~427KM or 265 miles, on a car that indicates 560KM on a full charge. How is this much different than the Taycan?

Some of it is economy but I feel a big part is the subconscious need to comp to Tesla, as market/opinion leader, who has played up their range (and 0-60) as benchmarks, rightly or wrongly, for EVs.

IMO, I rather have excellent infrastructure and super fast charging than having a massive battery that you need to: a) expend energy to carry around, b) charge, and c) ultimately have to maintain and replace.

But I bought my Taycan eyes wide open knowing it has at best modest range, so I don’t complain. For the record I’m showing 109mi at 43% on my 4S CT right now so I guess I’m pretty average!

That’s how I view it as well. I love having a BEV, but I also realize I purchased a “sports” vehicle. With that, comes a trade off. If I drive it like a sports car, I don’t expect to conserve range - and I’m okay with it! ?

I own both a Tesla long range model Y and a Taycan RWD.

The Taycan RWD always get longer range than the Tesla. I can't speak for the model S or any other set of Porsche/Tesla's, but in my opinion the Tesla model Y range is overstated. So much so and they have so many complaints about poor range that Tesla set up a team just to fight against anyone who claimed the Tesla range was not what they advertised.

https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/tesla-batteries-range/

This week I charged my Tesla Sunday night to 85%. I've driven 96 miles so far this week. I'm down to 41%. Extrapolating to 100%, the estimated range for my long range Tesla Y is 220 miles.

On my Taycan, I'm averaging 280 miles on a 100% charge. And thats when driving at 70 mph+. The Tesla guess-o-meter says I have 123 miles available, which is a joke. I'd be lucky to get another 90 miles on the 41% I have left.

I’m just back to my usual trip of 2000km and the most important is how fast you charge and not the range.
In France and Germany at least, the number of fast chargers are growing with Ionity, Fastned, Engie and others compared to the past 2 years.
So you can drive fast and don’t have to slow down because of range anymore.
So my guess-o-meter is showing me 250km at 100% now yes but it’s when I’m fast on highway and I will need to stop less than 20min before I continue.
Ok it’s longer than a diesel but I’m less tired at the end of the 2000km round trip.
The more fast chargers well placed we have the less we’ll think of range.

I'm betting that your prediction will also come true here in California.

I initially specced the larger battery, and then deliberately switched to the smaller one. Partially this freed up some budget that could be reallocated to other options, but primarily it was because it felt wasteful to spend the bulk of the time lugging around the extra weight.

That makes perfect sense. How much heavier is the PB+? What sort of range do you get with your car?

There are multiple gas mileage threads on RL.

They discuss it because it’s amazing how efficient the current 911 can be.

And then (of course) tell each other how they’re driving the car wrong.

but never, at least to me, have they complained they only get 200 Miles on a tank!
I get around 550miles/tank out of mine, but I think I could hit 800 if I pushed for it and cared to drive in that manner for a full tank.
Here’s my last tank.

I care. A lot. That’s why our Taycan is local use only.
