Hi Everyone,

I remember reading somewhere that during range mode, the front motor electronically de-couples. Using the rear motor only for power, in order to conserve energy.

The other day, I was monitoring the All-wheel on the dash, and found that even in range mode, the front axel is still powered. When I push the pedal (slightly to overtake, not aggressive), the front springs to life as well.

Of course not a big issue by any means, wondering what have been you guy's observation?

I think I heard it's supposed to be the other way - the rear motor decoupled at speed

That'd be more weird then, since in range mode the "power bar" for the rear axel shows its driven too.

Yeah I've also heard (think it was an insideEVs video) that at some point they removed the uncoupling

Range mode will put the transmission in the rear into neutral. It can’t decouple the front wheels as there is no transmission. The MY22 cars brought some coding changes and optimizations for range mode.

He said “electronically”, not mechanically.

the front motor electronically de-couples.
That’s possible. It was mentioned as new in 2022 IIRC in some articles.

Originally, though, yes the rear mechanically decoupled. Or still does. I don’t know.

Does it mean that CT works different?
From what I see on the all-wheel monitor, it change from AWD to FW.
When you brake, then RW comes to power... and it looks more AWD again.
Or, when you push the pedal... but when you drive "on an easy way", it's FW.

For MY22:

The new Taycan model year will not be homologated separately, so there will not be any new WLTP range values. However, the real-world range of the latest versions will be greater in dayto-day use. Extensive technological developments have been implemented to achieve this increase. In Normal and Range modes, the front electric motor is almost completely decoupled and de-energised in the partial load range in the all-wheel drive models. Furthermore, no drive is transmitted to either axle when the car is coasting or at a standstill. This electric freewheel function reduces drag losses. The motors are switched on again within milliseconds only when the driver requests more power or changes the driving mode. The thermal management and charging functions have also been further improved.

All AWD models and variants behave in the same way.

Note also the drive shift when ascending or descending a hill.

I'm pretty sure MY20/21 behaves differently and relies more on the front motor (smaller) when on the level but this may have been altered with software updates that we have all had.

And I'm sure that mine is still FW in Range mode.

How do i bring up the all-wheel display? It had it on the car i used at the PEC centre, but i can't find it on my CT4S. Or is it part of some options pack i may not have? ta.

I believe it's not part of any options pack... you just have to find it (on the left side).
Check this video, from 3:00 ...

Apparently the option to display disappeared on MY22 cars (!) which I find odd.

Go to Displays in PCM and look at options for the left display. The full list of what can be displayed is there - ensure all are ticked.

Was a standard display feature as per Macan, Cayenne, Panamera etc. Only condition was that you must have AWD (obviously).

Suspect another coding gaff.
