Was just running out to grab a coffee and got the Red Ring. Tried a few times and couldn't do anything. 2020 Turbo with only 13k miles on it.

What's weird is it went away about 20 minutes after, but I called roadside assistance and got it towed to the dealer.

- Does this usually lead to a new HV battery?
- If yes, is the issue solved permanently with the new battery or is this something that might pop up again in a few years. Seems like a lot of years of these have this issue, so have they come up with a battery that has the fix for this?
- I'm assuming this will take a few weeks (no loaners available at my dealer) so I need a rental.
- It actually went away, I've read a bunch of threads here and never heard of it going away. I was able to drive it out of my garage, but wasn't going to chance trying to drive to the dealer.

Thanks.

This looks to me what we call a Red Circle of Death, but Canadian version.

Most likely 1 or more cells went bad, but it only takes one to go bad. This may lead to individual cell replacement or entire battery. There should not be any more J1.1 batteries or they should not be fitted as replacements given known issues. The best case, you will get a brand new HV battery from J1.2 but emulated to J1.1.

Please keep us posted as none of us are immune to this type of failure.

Yeah, I've followed a few threads here and this was a fear of mine and so many different stories from months at the dealer to a few modules to a new pack and now maybe a new and improved pack. I was hoping the newer stories were better, but there so many threads from all over the place.

I just want it dealt with and not dicked around with bandaid fixes and I'm hoping repair times have maybe improved because they have no loaners available right now, which is annoying.

Did you have the ARB6/7 battery recall?
Do you have the 22 kW OBC upgrade?

My red rings of death (had 3 or 4 now) ended up being the high voltage converter as the insulation was failing. It was repaired under warranty.

My story (already written here back in August): When i got red error during charging on DC (260+kw), i locked the car for about 45 minutes.
After i arranged road assistance, i unlocked the car and it worked…. So i drove another 100km to next charging station, where i charged (over 250kw again) till 70%… and only yellow error occured.
Next day, i had inspection, they replaced heater (again; that was my 3rd replacement), but yellowerror still exist after DC.
Next step: some sensor (close to HV battery) was replaced and that fixed the problem.
(I sold the car before that since i was notwilling to wait a month for that)
But the car still has 22kw onboard charger (it’s been replaced about a year ago)…

Yeah, I don't see the 22kw charger on my option list, but my concern is that this happens more than once and it sounds like it's likely to happen again and all the threads seem to point to fixes taking weeks, which is a huge pain.

Is the heater in question the battery heater? Sounds like that one is common, so is the on board charger and then finally the battery. The last one is what scares me the most.

Dealer looked at it and it sounds like it's a module communication error (or something to that effect). They said there was an open recall, they flashed new software and it's fine. They are going to test it another day to make sure.

So big headache averted, but even thinking about that error coming up again makes me nervous.

Yes that's the red ring of Taycan as paperweight. I got one of those in the middle of a charging session. Tried everything I could think of but of course nothing worked. Flat bedded to dealer. Six weeks later, got the car back. Since then have charged twice without incident. But my confidence is shot.

Did I mention six weeks? Dealer was not great about this. No sympathy. Had to text repeatedly with service to get updates. I guess it was unrealistic to think that the dealership would want to be sure I knew it was on my side. Never heard from anyone except the service folks and then, as I said, it required constant effort on my part to get any update info.

It's definitely hurt my confidence because once you get it, you're flatbed bound and if you're not at home or work it's a huge pain and well pretty much a headache even if it's at home.

I just found out that my city is only one of 3 in the country (not sure if try) that's equipped to deal with the HV stuff. I didn't know that and if it wasn't, I'd have never bought it. Thankfully, car is back.
