I'm curious: Is anybody here at all concerned about the integrity of the roof of a Taycan that has roof rails installed? Numerous other car brands have had wide-spread (i.e., common) leaking through the screws/holes in the roof used to hold the roof rails (including Toyota and Volvo that I know about)... I'm also puzzled as to why Porsche requires a glass roof to have roof rails/rack, as I would think it would be the other way around (requiring a metal roof, both for support purposes and to avoid the obvious concern about scratching/breaking a glass roof from placing heavy items over the glass, as things can easily "slip" while installing a box or whatever on the rails/rack).

I suspect that the edges of the roof are reinforced on cars with the glass top and capable of supporting the weight of the roof box and contents.

Honestly I didn’t notice much difference with the roof box on - maybe 5-10% worse? I’m getting 400-450km of range (20kWh/100km) without it in regular driving. Maybe 350-400km (22kWh) if all at 120+ With roof box on?
Very many thanks for this information - it’s really helpful.

I got the Porsche ones and as above they have black plastic housing with silver bars. You don’t really notice with the roof box on as it’s so big, black and shiny!

Did your cross bars come with a storage bag and an installation tool? Mine just arrived with just a set of keys...
Thanks.

Yes they did. I don’t use the bag but use the installation tool to tighten/loosen them. I can’t remember what bit is fitted on it but guess an Allen key would also work?

I don't recall a storage bag, but a tool was indeed included - to torque the bolts securing the towers to the roof rails.

The included tool has a built-in torque indicator. The rails are aluminium and so would get deformed easily should one torque them beyond the spec. (I don't recall what that spec is, can post back later.)

They are fiddly to get on as you have to align to the 2 holes which is a bit blind. And make sure you get the right one on front and rear as they are not the same size! Porsche recently changed my roof bars because of the small dents caused by misaligning them first time they mounted them. Took them off a few days back and there’s now a dent in the new ones! It’s only small so doesn’t bother me but if you’re fussy you need to be really careful with the bars

Thanks. I did note they're not the easiest to position. Certainly trickier than they were on my panamera ST.
I'll have to ask the dealer to get me a proper installation tool.

Best solution...

Problem with forum advice is that, for the most part, it is anecdotal. I use my roof box frequently, I do not have any leaks or issues of any kind (I actually haven't had any of the issues mentioned on this forum with respect to any aspect of my CT), and I do not anticipate having any issues.

I personally would not use a roof box without roof rails (I have the speed box and use it's full speed capabilities) as I would not trust the suction cup attachment, but that's just me. Maybe it's fine. I personally would not use it.
