Shelf ledges in the Taycan's glove compartment? What for?

Shelf ledges in the Taycan's glove compartment? One on each side…. Inside the glove compartment of my base Taycan. What for?

Sorry this is my first Porsche so I have a lot of questions…

The car manual - fits perfectly in the little insert on the top shelf. Other than that, registration and insurance is about all that can fit in there.

thank you. When I bought the car, th dealership said the manual was digital only; so I never got a hard copy to help realize what those ledges were for.

Weird! My 2022 (used) came with a paper manual for both the EVSE and the car.

Manuals are now paper with lots of call outs to digital.
The days of just getting a manual and reading it are gone.
You have to jump back and forth - I hate it.

Also, the paper packet contains other things such as a Maintenance Journal - I like that one.

Is there supposed to be a “floor” for this shelf? I cannot imagine these side tabs being useful by themselves… am I missing a part?

You have to jump back and forth - I hate it.

The car industry has really missed a whole technology wave here. They should be giving us a customised digital manual, which automatically includes exactly the option set for our car and not pages and pages of other stuff that you don’t know whether your vehicle has. Then for a premium car like the Taycan they should send that for digital printing - for €15 they could generate a completely customised physical book which new customers would get to read before their car is delivered.

Sadly the Porsche manual has been seized by lawyers so 90% of it is warnings not to do stupid stuff and it is therefore too cumbersome to navigate.

The manual comes in a hard cover wallet which slides in there.

I'm uncoordinated, so I tend to have issues getting the manuals back into the shelf area on the first shot..

At least in the US, the NHTSA outlines safety info/warnings not to do stupid stuff that is mandatory in car manuals.

Thanks for all the info, guys. I will ask my dealership why my Taycan didn’t even come with a physical copy of a manual. Reading the digital version on my phone hurts my eyes… the only good thing is that the keywords are searchable.

(Second thing to ask my dealership: why did they tell me that I could close the trunk by pressing and holding “Lock” on my keyfob, when it obviously doesn’t work! That’s a whole different topic and thread, which I just read.)
