Hi ,

I have a dilemma - my dealer has a new , unregistered MY 21 4S which I have paid a deposit on and am due to sign the paperwork , pay the rest of the deposit and pick up this week.

I’m really not sure if I am doing the right thing as I did not spec it and it and I am compromising on quite a few things but the biggest worry is it has the smaller 73kw battery. It also does not have sports chrono.

if I pass on this it could be a long time before another car with a performance battery plus is available , whether to order or otherwise .

My concerns about the smaller battery are
1. Reduced range
2. Reduced power 60-80mph zone in particular
3. Reduced desirability on resale
4. It’s late in the cycle for a MY21

I’m buying this via my company on HP for maximum tax benefits so no guaranteed minimum value , just a final payment to own it. No option to hand the car back for a guaranteed minimum residual value. All the risk of resale value and time to sell are on me.

Should I pass on this car and wait for a car with a performance plus battery ? Don’t want to be stuck with something which is difficult /slow to sell on.

I’d be less concerned about resale value & more concerned about your “must have” features. If you have your heart set on having features that this car lacks, you will miss them. Every. Single. Day.

Agreed it would be a long wait for your bespoke car, but even if it’s a year, that year will surely come, and at that point you’ll be driving “your” build vs still driving the dealer’s spec.

I would pass. I prefer the larger range and as an extra you get also extra power

Do you need more range? If 200 mi is enough for all cases for your use profile, don't worry so much. If you are more interested in resale value, the bigger battery with more power for the car is for sure a selling point, as somebody from a dealer told me.

You need the extra range given this is the UK and the weather not ideal (ever).

You can live without the Sports Chrono - you get launch control regardless in case you're worried about that.

Thank you , I knew that launch control was still available without sports chrono although the dealer said it wasn’t possible !
Less power , range and resale desirability on the smaller battery are more concerning .

Long lead times for a new factory order so either you order and wait or look for a demonstrator.

Check the range calculator on the Taycan microsite for the STD battery and whatever wheels the car has. Be realistic with nature of driving and temperature to get a good indication of likely range - it may help you decide.

What is the rest of the spec?

I’m with others, who said: skip it and wait for your build.

Like others have mentioned the spec is what I would worry about more. Only you know if the range is sufficient for your daily usage. For me it would be more than enough as when I used to have to go into an office my round trip is about 40 miles. Other than that I rarely take road trips so the smaller battery would be fine…having said all that when I get my Taycan it will have the larger battery as I am used to what my Tesla model 3 gives me and do not want to drop much more if I can help it. I usually only need to charge it a couple of times a week (using octopus energy‘s 5p tariff during 00:30 - 04:30).

For me it’s things like colour (mamba green for me), and the other optional items I have deemed must have that I would not want to compromise on.

Pass.
There's a reason the CT comes with larger as standard, they've realised the smaller one is not enough IMO.
Resale will be an issue for top £

Wait and get what you want on such a significant purchase.

Thanks for all your replies. It really helps.
I can’t go for a demonstrator as my company has to be the first registered keeper for 100% capital allowance and 2% benefit in kind . That’s why I have been searching for an unregistered car.

the rest of the spec is
Volcano grey
Crayon leather interior
Privacy glass
Grey top windscreen
Electric charge port cover
Ambient lighting
Porsche led door puddle lights
Porsche crests on front headrests
22kw on board charger
150kw on board charger
20” sport aero wheels
14 way comfort seats

Yes your are correct that the published range difference is 30miles .

However when I tried the base Taycan I found it slow to pick up speed from 50mph +
is that more to do with the drive train/RWD than characteristics and performance of the smaller battery ?
