Hi,
I've been using Ottocast U2-Air for a while now to get wireless car play on my 2021 Taycan. I actually bought my first iphone to use wired with the taycan (iphone 13 mini) at first, I am mainly an Android user. I got fed-up with opening and closing the storage compartment each time so I decided to look into getting a wireless dongle. I've chosen this specific product because it seemed to be the fastest to connect to my iphone from the videos I saw on YouTube. It was simple to setup and quite small so it doesn't take much space in the already small storage. The phone connects to it via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth together.
I've had minor issues with it. It was working fine for the most part but after playing around with the phone settings and updating the Ottocast firmware, the iphone stopped connecting to the dongle via Bluetooth automatically. I found out that if it did not connect via Bluetooth I lose the GPS passthrough. So if the phone is inside the center storage or my pocket the maps applications did not get a GPS signal. After unpairing the phone a couple of times it is now working again.
The other issue I have is with YouTube music. I have to click last played then the twice and it will send be to the first track of the list I was listening too. I have to scroll down to the track I was listening to and click it to continue where I have left. I listen to long tracks (over 2 hours sometimes) so I prefer to continue exactly where I have left without having to click through the menus. This is probably and issue with YouTube music and CarPlay not the dongle.
The company sells a larger dongle that seems to use apple CarPlay connection to run wireless android auto even if the vehicle does not support android auto if I understood correctly from their site. My main phone is Android but I did not get it due to its size and it seems slower to connect to the phone.
I am new to CarPlay and iOS in general so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I've only used one iPhone13 mini with the dongle so your mileage may vary. I've noticed that wireless CarPlay consumes a lot of battery power so it might be just CarPlay in general or it might be caused by ottocast. It doesn't bother me much or causes me to charge my phone more than once a day but I think it is worth mentioning.
