Really sorry to read this recently, after the wonderful northern lights account. Is it only a 22 obc issue? did you try to disconnect the battery on site or is it too risky?
all the best for solving this quickly!

I haven't yet – but was about to try it. When I went out to the car just now – the PCM showed up a new message:

"12V battery very low – connect car to charger immediately".

This is despite the main battery is currently sitting at 59% SOC. So I thought I'd leave it well enough alone – just in case I end up with not being able to open frunk or doors or whatever – for whenever the tow truck turns up.

How depressing. Did they bring you another car on the tow truck? Will it be taken back to Ireland for you or to a dealer in England?

It is going to a dealer in England and we take a train and plane back to Ireland tomorrow. I've no idea what is the process re: fixing the car or getting it back to Ireland.

The Porsche Warranty is Europe-wide and this clause seems to cover my situation:

I had this exact same thing happen to m. However it was the charger not the car. The waterproof seal had broken and there was water inside the carger cable port. The car recognized the issue and wound not charge. New charger and worked fine

Spending weekend in Lake District, UK. Plugged into hotel destination charger - which worked fine yesterday.

Today it charged at 22kW for about an hour and then got a charging error.

When I went out the charger was dead. Car showing this error and refusing to go into any gear or move.

Any ideas?

some of the taycan delivered have onboard charger issues ... quite heavy... it is too costly to porsche to make a general recall - then they let the issue going and case by case they change the chip or assembly that lead to default (charging) because not all will present the issue because it depends you use 22, 11, charging time, level of the batt at that time etc..

Sorry to hear that, makes me worry having the 22kw charging option. Any update from the dealer on your car or getting it back home?

Hope you are back on the road soon and Porsche can give you a clear root cause,. My 22kW charger had a software update applied when the recalls were done recently, unfortunately I don't have detail of why it was updated.

The car remains at a Porsche Centre in the UK waiting for analysis – likely be a few more days before I hear what's the root cause.

Porsche Centre Dublin have been great communications wise and are taking the repeated failures of this car seriously.

Quick update

Got confirmation today that it is 100% the 22kW AC charger that caused the breakdown. My fourth replacement should be installed in a few weeks.

Not surprised to hear it was the charger again – all previous three chargers have failed..

Communications from everyone at Porsche Centre Dublin has been great – its not their fault it keeps breaking.

Decisions to make now as we don't really want this recurring issue. I don't even want to think how difficult this would have been if it happened a few weeks previously in the remote arctic circle.

Wouldn’t it be possible to let them install the 11 kw charger in your car to solve things?
could I ask you what your charging habits are. Do you charge single fase at home.
I also ordered the 22 kw charge and will je charging 3 fase at home. Probably not 22 but somewhere between 11 and 22.
Good luck anyway.

While I haven't strongly pushed for this because it may not be in my interest to do so – the initial consensus is that it would not be possible and could have side effects.

The VIN is strongly tied across Porsche systems to the factory specification and to have a mismatch would bring the car out of support. Apparently, things like PIWIS would detect the difference and it is unclear what problems it could cause.

Software updates for example, are strongly linked to VIN numbers and again this has the potential to cause issues. My car would be in an untested configuration if I was to agree to it.

I do a lot of 1-phase charging at 6kW/25A – to match the current notice on the configurator. I also do a lot of 3-phase 22kW charging here in Ireland when at hotels or remote villages that don't have DC charging – there are 1000s of public 22kW chargers in Ireland.
