So, rather excited about picking the car up at the end of the week and have already lined up front PPF and ceramic coating with a detailer with solid reputation locally.

Car invoice has swissvax treatment included at £400 which at no point have I expressly requested or authorised… I am told by SA that this has already been applied… Given in a few weeks the car goes for that PPF (aligned with a family holiday we are taking, so the car is off the road while i am away) presumably they have to strip all of that off which rather renders the treatment pointless…

From a contractual perspective I know where I stand (I didn’t order this, it looks like a high margin assumptive-close by the dealer) by in reality how much of an ass would I be in pushing back on the invoice cost..?

Interested in whether anyone else has similar experience they can draw on as I am sure this must be an easy win for the dealer with me in my pre-collection, excited state…

I've not an experience to share, but I'd hope that if you explain that you've made alternative arrangements, the dealers will accept that they've wasted a lot less than £400 of their supply of the treatment.

Agreed, I think it’s best just to say firmly that at no time was this discussed with anyone and it’s clearly a mistake on their part which obviously they won’t expect you to pay for. Especially as it will cost you more to remove when it goes for a proper ceramic treatment.

They put it on mine too without being requested. Sort of thing i always opt out of and i put it in same category as scotch guard and mobile phone insurance.

I pointed it out the moment i saw on the bill (when i collected it) and the sales guy removed it without an argument.

My plan was to get ceramic after the wax had worn off over time, but i never got around to it!

So my advice, Don't pay for it or ask for a credit. You don't have to pay for something you didn't ask for. I think you may struggle to get compensation for any cost to remove it pre-ppf though, as i think most people know it comes off after a couple of washes.

Update - was clear in telling them I didn’t authorise the treatment and it has miraculously disappeared from the bill…

That was the right thing to do.
?
If nobody complains they will just keep doing it (they did it on my wife's BMW).

I see it as completely unethical.

If I started adding things (at sky high rates) to my clients invoice that they never ordered, I am sure I would be reprimanded by the regulator and told to stop immediately.

How come car dealers can get away with this shady activity for years on end?

I suppose you could always say you recommended the dealer to other people and then send them an invoice for advertising (that they never requested). See how they like it.

Mine was done too, but there were issues, looked like bird crap etching, they agreed to send it off to a detailer and it's had a full detail and ceramic and I had a 911 to play with for a few days for no charge. Quite happy with the resolution really.

Yeah that’s not a bad outcome but not exactly guaranteed either! Well done!
