Had a great driving and charging day today.

These new Petro-Canada stations are great. Reliable and Fast.

G’night.

This is how much my consumption rate varied today, based on speed, of course.

I found gold: a Petro-Canada DC charger that’s still free. Most started charging (money) just a week ago. Here at the A&W parking lot, in Kenora, Ontario, there’s free charging. ...and apparently the whole senior citizen community has breakfast here.

(Update: Oddly, even though it says it is capable of 200kW, the charger is behaving like a 50kW charger... maybe that’s why it is free)

It’s 19°F outside. But the driving has been smooth and easy. Roads are clear, and the weather appears to be clear ahead of me. At least for a couple of days.

The silly Nav system in the car seems to be getting used to the Canadian cold... it only took 10 minutes to regain its sanity and memory after I started driving this morning. Maybe the car sneaks out and gets drunk while I sleep. It’s probably just hung over and takes some time to get going. Alternate Theory: the Nav software engineers get drunk before

I hope that US gas-station companies will get the idea to make such nice charging stations as Petro-Canada is doing! Too bad that we don't have Petro-Canada in the US...

I think there are a lot that are free, that one app charge hub, has a filter for free chargers, Canada is cool in so many ways.

@louv is there a reboot facility for the car? I was thinking of the fact that you have had several updates for the nav system in one day. Is there an equivalent to the old Windows “ctrl, alt, delete“ ? Or can you turn off the car completely and restart it?

@louv when you get to BC, hit up the BC Hydro charging stations. They are free. You may need to download the "BC Hydro EV" app to initiate the charging. The down side is that I think they are only 50 kW stations

We have ElectrifyAmerica putting in a huge network of very fast charging stations. And others, too.

Arrived at the edge of Winnipeg, the edge of the Great Plains, I guess. Landscape went from rolling hills, forest, and lots of lakes to... flat and empty as far as the eye can see.

Oh, and Petro-Canada has a 350kW (capable) charger here. But, it isn’t charging any faster than the 200kW charger. Oh well. But hey, consistent 128kW going into my battery pack is just fine.

Grabbed some coffee. Wrote up some new software bugs. Chatted with a stranger about EV charging. All good.

Dirty, dirty car.

Forgot to ask Pal

does you Taycan have innodrive?
If so what’s your thoughts so far as would be good to hear from someone who has actually used it rather than someone who has just test driven it!

Yes, I love the EA chargers but location choice is generally Walmart and Bank of America. Walmart is super busy and can be ICEed too easily and bank is closed Sundays and after 6pm so what about bathrooms and small store. AM/PM would be great to have charging. Like in Europe I see many Circle K markets get fast EV charging.

Great photos @louv happy that you struck gold before even getting to California. :)

Just curious, what is the hottest your battery temp has been, the docs say to have it at 30-35C for optimum charge

Every Day is a Winding Road
—Prince

Snowmobiles everywhere. They are crossing the road, crossing the freeway, and crossing at traffic lights. Yeah, I’m not from here. Snowmobiles everywhere amuses me.

Spoke to four more people about Electric Cars at this stop.

Hey, did you know there’s an Austin, Manitoba?
