I'm a long time 911 owner and I'm considering switching to Taycan 4S - my current car is a 4S cabriolet. My dealer told me the waiting time for Taycan is 2 years. But I think the supply chain issue will get better and better, now the world is done with the COVID.

So do you think this will really be a 2 year wait? If I end up with a 2025 model, the price may be much higher.

They do have one on the slot. It has a good color too but no leather interior, nor 21" wheels. My impression is, I will get slightly longer range with the bigger wheels, is it true?

Lol 2 years seems very stretched in the current market.

My suspicion is the dealer wants to offload the one he has in stock.

Regarding wheels, seems there's a general consensus that the 19 stock give best overall range and that bigger wheels reduce range. If they're open (rs spyder, mission-e) design then the reduction will be higher.

Personally I won't mind any mild reduction to look better ?

@Washington, this definitely sounds bogus and we have someone here @ssim who has a trustworthy SA who can certainly help you, but you have to be quick, and connect with him so they can try for a slot for you with some reporting delivery possible as early as September.

No. Has your dealer explained the wait time - is it the length of the queue, or "supply chain" issues? (Or are they closed until Jan '25? ?) Also, "Washington" as in the state, or the city? If the former, the queue is still probably pretty long at all 3 dealers on the I5 corridor. Would suggest calling around out of state.

No. Or, rather, "not necessarily"; here's one of the (many) threads on this topic: Taycan Wheel Efficiency | TaycanForum -- Porsche Taycan Owners, News, Discussions, Forums

I put my deposit down for a 4s allocation in July of 2022, locked my order early January 2023 and am expecting delivery this month after a 2 month delay. I'd recommend calling other dealers to see if they can get you a slot earlier. 2 years sounds very extreme given the improvements to the supply chain.

Buy it from an out of state dealer. There are plenty of unaccounted for MY23 Taycans still coming in the next couple of months. Check inventory on porsche.com as well and put in random zip codes from around the country.

2 years for a Taycan 4S? My SA had a 4S allocation just a couple of weeks ago...GTS has felt easier to get, and he may still have a slot for one. Still, 2 years is crazy. @Washington you're welcome to PM me and speak to my SA. He also has an incoming Taycan 4S that may still be available.

Thank you everyone! I didn't realize I could order from a different dealer. I'm in the WA state. Now I reflect on the conversation, the dealer may have meant the Taycan base wait time. If the delivery time can be this year, I will order my own preference.

So if I order from an out of state dealer, can they still ship to my home address with the same delivery fee?

Any trim (maybe except the turbo and turbo s) should be on a manageable time frame. At least here in Europe, I'm seeing 4-6 months right now. People that ordered last year are getting their orders now so factory is definitely picking up speed compared to what it was last year.

What do you mean by "delivered at your door"?

I mean, I had one dealer here, about 700km from my location, offering to ship a car to me but that's something I've never considered. I'm picking up mine (hopefully) in about a week +/- and it's from a dealership 440km away.

I fully intend to enjoy the ride back home in my car ?

Have you considered looking for what you want on the used CPO market? You can really get a lot of car for your money right now that way.

No, they probably did mean the S - when I spoke with P of Bellevue and P of Bellingham (<1 year ago), the queue for S was an order of magnitude more than the base model, for either the sedan or the CT. (The S queue combines orders for all body styles.)

So if I order from an out of state dealer, can they still ship to my home address with the same delivery fee?
The delivery fee included in the car's price is not to your address, but to your dealer - wherever they may be. From dealer to you it'd be another fee (should you choose to have it delivered, that is; you can also do a fly-n-drive).

The dealer didn't mean base time, they were blowing smoke to get you to commit to buying the incoming vehicle. There are new base Taycans incoming or on-lot showing even at WA dealers right now (Tacoma shows 3 base incoming unclaimed vehicles, Bellevue shows 1 base and one Turbo S, Bellingham shows 2 base in stock, Spokane shows 1 incoming). If you search out of state you will find even more. Use Porsche finder as others have suggested with different zipcodes since the finder only shows cars within 500 miles radius. Do note that Porsche finder will sometimes show sold cars as available, but what I used to do is to check on the actual dealer website for the same car, and if it appears in their new inventory on their own website, it's very likely available (next step is to call them to confirm). Also, if considering already configured vehicles, you could consider used too - there is more room for negotiation there too, as they are not moving as fast as dealers would have you believe (some have been sitting for a bit).

Wait lists used to be very long, especially around in WA around Seattle. They must have dropped since even a year ago Tacoma wanted $15K non-refundable ADM just to get on a waitlist and they called me not long ago offering MSRP. Some dealers will use the past pandemic shortage to proliferate the myth of how it takes 2 years to get a Taycan, so they get you to buy one of their in-stock or incoming ones. If you insist of a new one, something tells me you'd get a call within few weeks, maybe few months with "we had a cancellation for a configurable allocation and since you're a good customer we're willing to offer it to you for only $5K ADM", then if you can negotiate, you might even get a discount (though still less likely in the Seattle area)

Your quickest route to a new Taycan is existing incoming or on-the-lot cars. I would search out of state, you can either ship from there (might even be able to negotiate free shipping) or go pick it up. If you want the exact configuration which you cannot find anywhere, call around and find a dealer with an allocation. You can have the car shipped to PEC Los Angeles ($500 for MY23, for MY24 it costs $2,000 IIRC), drive it from there (you can find threads from people who have done this on this forum) or even go pick it up yourself from the dealer (I am one of those who drove mine cross country from the showroom in the middle of winter, full story here). To give you a frame of reference, I put my first deposit down in June 2021, the worst time in terms of Taycan delays, and it was for the rarest allocation - Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo, and yet I still managed to drive my fully custom order car 20 months later, at MSRP. For a 4S, I'm thinking there is a very good chance you will find a ready to configure allocation today, worst case in the few months, if you expand your search to national. MSRP is very much achievable, even though no doubt some dealers will try to push an ADM or forced options on you. If you're good at negotiations and are willing to put the time into it, you might be able to get it under MSRP.

You’ll typically have to pay for shipping at your expense ($2-3k enclosed cross-country)….I think my SA is okay covering half or full shipping costs, depending on the trim, for clients out of state.

I'm so glad you mentioned this because I hadn't. My bought my previous 911s all as new and have the impression that pre-owned ones are not much cheaper. But now I realized it's not a bad idea to buy a CPO one because they actually have longer warrenty.

Now that I have test driven some, I may end up buying a Turbo or TTS instead. I feel the handling is better (the 4S I tried doesn't have performance package). And the higher trim ones tend to have better interior which I do appreciate (I'd spec that if I order my own). 4S is fast enough, but the base model feels slow to me (no battery plus). I also think the Burmester is clearly better than Bose and consider it a valuable option to me now.

Surprisingly the 2+1 back seat option is good - my kids are slim so we can comfortably fit 3 people in the back including an adult. With the 2+1 seat you still have the cup holder tray and it only costs $480. I will definitely get it if I spec my own. Lacking 2+1 is not a deal breaker but I realized the glass roof is a must have.
