Is there anything exclusive to this trim, other than trim name? Or is this just a 4S with a set of options and a unique trim badge?
Nothing really important: Porsche Black Series are usually a well optioned version of the same car, at a slightly cheaper price than if one picked the same options by hand, and sometimes with some not-so-important design elements in black (ex: rear logos). Ex, 997.2 Black Series, and Boxster 987.2 Black Edition lists of equipment.

They're very interested when one wanted about the same set of options. Otherwise, nop; and they're not a collector.

I didn't do the math, but the Black Edition may be slight cheaper in this package than a la carte but only if you keep it as packaged and black.

While the "Shades" and Basic Interior Leather and gloss black exterior trim is included, you can still change the exterior and interior colors to non-black and it may still be cheaper as "Shades" and Slate Grey selections, model designation, and rear light bar are all no-cost changes . Ironically, the more you items you switch from the package, the less it becomes a "Black Edition".

Porsche could have made this edition more exclusive with a special wheel color finish, but alas most of the wheels have a gloss black finish anyways as standard. They could have been more creative IMO, black cars are boring, not exclusive, unless you have some ungodly chrome trim as standard like Audi.

here in the US, there's still an additional $1500 extended package which substantially is the special door sill:

That's good news! The world needs more greyscale cars like we need a hole in our collective heads. Hopefully that suppresses the rapid increase in suicides and therapists.

Is there any intelligence on next gen (J2) Taycan?

Normally about this stage in the model cycle, there starts to be press 'leak' speculation; and, the odd deeply camouflaged test pic start appearing... but I have not seen anything substantial yet.

My guess is, that it could be more like 3 (or even 4) years away rather than the typical 2? e.g. VW financial problems, market uncertainty and other model replacement type priorities (e.g. panamera)... Just a complete guess.

New platform, shared with panamera.
So not a EV platform; which seems like a regression. I wouldn’t expect a better car from a j2 Taycan; maybe a cheaper one

I asked my sales guy, he reckons 2029, maybe 2028 based on nothing other than having worked at Porsche for decades (which counts for little in the new world)

I would say he is right.

If porsche were capable of developing platforms any faster, today, the 718 EV would be released, and not delayed for the 2nd year in a row.

They simply cannot develop car platforms in less than 4-5 years. They are that far behind Chinese automakers, which need 6-12 months to develop new platform and release the car on it.

Their process is not setup like that. Their supply chain is not setup like that.

Nah, they release 7 versions of the operating system for 1 hardware arhitecture, and still release brand new cars on that shit, despite having invested in android based PCM. Why? They are tied to their supply chains like a sinking ship.

They will never be competitive in EV world again - 718 EV had the chance to be the first 2 seater sports car. By the time that is out, China will put out 2 door EV weighing 1000kg less, with more advanced battery. Their solution for HV battery problems with the 718 was to buy a bankrupting failing company with an outdated shitty product, they are clueless.

Completely unserious, as usual.

Only on earth 3 would it make sense for Blume to think: hum, i have a gaping hole in my product portfolio and my previous EV programs have had massive contribution margin losses due to warranty issues so, the sensible allocation of capital is:
1) rush to production unvalidated EV platforms by cutting all possible corners because the chinese do it too so heck, let's do agile hardware
2) allocate scarce OPEX to port an existing legacy product to a new platform which is already not working that well on the lead program (Macan), for no benefit at all other than a tertiary feature which sits at the polar opposite of the brand DNA

Yeah, on earth 3, this is what all seasoned industry leaders would do.

Yes; I am sure porsche takes 7 years releasing a new platform because they don’t want to cut corners (?) like cars from china that beat it around the nurburing, have better software, and sell 5x more
They would definitely hate releasing a new platform every 2 years

;)

Is the brand DNA to have lower profit margin than Skoda and losing 40% sales?

Anyway, let’s move on. I forgot that this forum is so full of fanboys that would excuse even insanely long developing timelines. Wish I was able to get 2 years deadline extension in my industry.

718 ev will come out with battery tech from 2016, tested on powering a measly turbo charger, in 2029 or maybe 2039, and it will be the best 2 door EV the world has ever seen, right guys?

To deny the fact that Chinese are the best in the world at manufacturing pipelines and calling that cutting corners is a next level of fanboying
