I can’t wait until the Taycan is worth 20 bucks or so, then I’ll by one for my wife and one for my summer home. Maybe next year?
Most likely scenario is slower rollout and possibly temporary exit of market.

Seems fairly normal depreciation to me. Your first one was subject to a very strange period of time that’s unlikely to ever be repeated.

110k car worth about half after a few years is about right
I wouldn’t say it’s “normal” that’s nearly 45% in less than 2 years.
Most luxury cars are 20% the first year and 15% per year the next 4…so under “normal” condition's he’d be somewhere around 35% after year 2, he’s 10% above that at 18 months.
We know it only matters if you sell, but that’s definitely reason for pause when considering whether to buy new vs lease, buy used or choose something else in the future, depending on your motivation of course.

I just paid 50% of original MSRP for a 2020 4S….with 16 mos of remaining warranty. Seemed fair to me.

I'd like to get a better understanding of why someone buys a new car at these prices, and then sells it in 2 years. I'm assuming the main reason to buy a new car is because you can have a 'made to order' car. If you've ordered your 'dream car', which again, assuming a custom ordered car at these prices, it should be, then why do you want to sell it after you're just getting familiar with it?

I'm sure there are very valid reasons, since quite a few people do this, but I think everybody understands that this strategy will result in your expending the maximum $'s in car purchases over your lifetime.

Looking at the Taycan, there is no question in my mind that it will remain one of the most beautiful cars on the road for the next 5-10 years. There won't be any significant battery chemistry improvements for that time, and from a mechanical standpoint, I don't see a lot of improvements. In terms of software, most of this can be updated OTA, so a 2020 Taycan is pretty much the same as a 2024, at least at this point. I also think it's a pretty good bet that there won't be significant differences between a 2020 and a 2025 or even 2026. Even when there are additional features added, I'm doubtful they'll be significant enough to justify the massive cost in switching to a new car. With the excellent extended warranty for the car and the battery (8 yrs in the US), why would people feel the need for a new car every 2-3 years?

Maybe have a different one for each day of the week. All different colors and totally doable at $20 a pop! However, the charging could get a little confusing in that scenario.

And sometimes things get worse.. for example, I love the look of the big 10-piston PSCB front brakes that my 2020 turbo has (especially with the open mission-e wheels), while for the later years the front brakes have been made quite a bit smaller (6 piston).

I think that the more expensive the Taycan, the quicker (greater percentage) of depreciation you'll get (i.e., the steeper the curve). It makes sense, because people who can afford (and pay) $150k USD for a new Taycan won't be in the market for a used Taycan, ever -- so they can't be sold until the prices come down into the cheaper-to-buy range. But if you buy a $100k Taycan new, it will not drop nearly as quickly in trade-in or resale value. So if you want a new Taycan that doesn't lose so much value in 2-3 years, get a less-optioned, less-powerful Taycan that's closer to $100k than to $150k-$200k.

People keep saying this, but the disc size is identical (410mm) and the caliper housing is nearly the same size. I was parked next to a Turbo S with PCCB on Thursday and the brakes look nearly identical save for caliper color.

Ah, but it *is* a big difference -- but only with the PSCB brakes :) I think for the PCCB brakes there is only a small difference (as you say). I'll try to find some photos if I have time later

I found some photos on cars.com. here is a 2020 turbo:

(Listing)

And here a 2021 turbo:

Pretty significant difference (at least for the PSCB brakes). ?
