Taycan Hail Protection

I keep my Taycan CT4 outside due to lack of garage space (2 other cars have priority. I have been trying to figure out how to prevent damage (especially the panoramic roof in the event of a severe hail storm ( Maryland, USA). Damaging hail is not common here, but I have been through an hail storm in Virginia many years ago that was golf ball and bigger hail. So my paranoia has led me to the "Texas Hail Shield'. I provide some photos for others with the same fears. Its a good fit; easy and fast to install. I did not try the inflatable hail protection after reading a few reviews that cited damage by heavy winds.

I am going to put a car cover over the whole thing and hope that it provides additional wind resistance and protection of the fenders and doors (glancing blows vs hail impacting a horizontal aluminum or glass structure).

My fear as well given most recent storm in the norther Ohio that damaged so many cars, literally smashed car glass and building glass. The issue for me is the sides, I am thinking the only protection is some type of inflatable bubble wrap. Sides are not protected.

Car umbrella?

I thought about all the possibilities short of building a carport or extra garage (building restrictions in Maryland). Murphy's law says that anything with a wooden or metal frame might mitigate the the hail damage but the accomanying wind would turn the canvas top into a sail that would beat the car to death with the frame.

Is the plan to install this every day or just have it ready in case they predict hail and then run out and install it before the weather gets bad?

I can’t imagine doing this daily. I’m also wondering how safe the 2nd option is.

Personally, I would just live with the risk. It’s not like owning the hail shield would lower your insurance premiums.

I agree, this is why we have insurance. My wife’s defender was 1 month old when we parked it outside a venue with 0 risk of storms at 2 hrs later one came rolling and dropped a $4k hail damage bill that State Farm approved for repairs. It is what it is.

Might be cheaper and easier just to move somewhere without hail :\
