Taycan J1.2 Home charging kw change after update

I thought I'd add that my 2025 4S is doing the same thing. Had the Tesla Universal Wall Connector installed today, and the electrician had to go back and double check the settings because he thought my car should get at least 11 kw. I had a 60 amp breaker installed, and the UWC is set at 48 amps. Car is only charging at 9.4 kw. It's not much of a difference in the scheme of things, but it's not what I paid for, or what I was led to believe.

I recently bought a '22 Taycan and I had been reading that it charged at 11kW. I already own a Kia EV6 and it DOES charge at11kW, but my Taycan is only about 9.5kW. Came here looking to see why/when it changed. It's pretty crappy to buy a car with a certain expectation and come to find it falls short.

I won't claim to be 100% certain for a '22 model but my '23 GTS showed 9.6kW charging on the configuration when ordered. The car originally charged at 11kW on a Tesla EVSE and a 60 amp breaker. Porsche did an update and the car was capped at 9.6kW on the same EVSE. How dare they! And then I looked back at the paperwork and what was done was to limit the onboard charger to the original spec. Probably to lessen stress on a marginal component. Somewhere out on the web you can probably find the original specs for a '22 Taycan. Almost certainly shows 9.6kW.

I have no issue getting full 11kW equivalent when my EVSE is set to 48Amp since I got my 23 but will be testing it today to see if that is still the case as I have not paid attention to it. I have driven several Macan EVs and they max out at 9.6kW on my charger which is expected, at least in the US, but did they actually limit J1.1 Taycans now to that as well with an OTA.

Dealer said nothing but my reduction happened after a service visit. I never saw any indication of an OTA update. I am pretty sure it happened with, or as part of, the ARB6 recall (the HV battery monitoring software). Don't be surprised if your car is now charging at 9.6kW if you have been in for that recall.

Good point. I was under ARB7 that was resolved as part of the OTA and could absolutely drop the accepted charge rate in Amps from 48 to 40 resulting in 9.6kw speed, which would upset me greatly although I do not need it 99% of the time, but when I need it, then I must have it. Now, I can't wait to get back home from work and check it out!

It's like when we were able to charge at 11kW it was a mistake and eventually Porsche got around to correcting it and dropping it back to what was quoted in the specs. Got home plugged in and got the expected 10.5kW reported by the EVSE and the car when set to the max 48Amp. Then dropped it to 40Amp and getting expected 9.2kW. I am not impacted and all up to date on all recalls visiting the dealer this week to make all the updates. To be clear, I am a J1.1 2023 with standard 11kW on-board and no 19.2kW option nor EVSE connected to a 100Amp circuit.

I had a 22kw obc that got replaced to a 11kw obc a few months back. Its hooked up to a Tesla Gen 2 on a 100A breaker/set to 80A, with a 80A adapter. With the 22kw charger, i was able to pull 18.9 kw with no problems with the 22kw obc.

When i first got the car back about 3 months ago, i was seeing 11kw charging... but i just got my car back from 2 new software updates which was ASB2 (Driver assitance control unit reprograming) and a WSS6 (12V battery sensor reprogramming) now all i see is 8.9KW... Nothing else has changed... i have also tried to reset the tesla gen 2 charger.

Also note, that when i first got my car back from the 11kw obc, my plug and charge disappeared, but when i brought it back for the 2 new updates (noted above), they fixed it and it now works again. All my settings were deleted as if i my car was reset. From my work order, it states that it found the on board charger and high voltage battery had optional updates. They performed both updates and confirmed my plug and charge feature was now present and allows it to be selected and unselected.

Please let us know if anyone finds a remedy to getting the full 11kw charging back. I'm based in the US. California.

All Taycans have 11kW AC as standard.

In NA this has been software limited to 9.6kW due to a safety concern and risk of overheating of the receptacle (search the forum for details).

My dealer can't figure out why plug & charge isn't in the menu.. they are opening case with porsche. I spoke with their mechanics, he said was able to get it back in the menu, but than direct charging disappeared. So he reversed it to get me back direct charging.

I thought my direct charging button also disappeared... but i figured out that direct charging button comes back only if there is a profile selected. If no profile is selected, the direct charging disappears.
