Most maybe, but not all. How else do you explain 5+ year old Porsches with less than 1,000 miles on the odometer? Perhaps, some people's definition of "use" of the Porsche is different than "drive"? Speculative investment, garage decoration, status symbol, something to show off on the driveway to the neighbors, etc?
Well; judging by car reviewers, some can't use them. They are 70-80, with big bellies, they can't fit in the car, and even if they could, they don't have the reflexes anymore to drive them.

So my explanation is that.

But sure, following COVID there are plenty of people buying cars as "investment", as stupid as it sounds. But we are talking EVs, and specifically premium EVs, and I doubt anyone could even think an EV can be an investment.

Other points, all valid. But Porsche wants the numbers to go up every year, and the numbers won't go up every year without appealing to new consumers, and new consumers have other expectations from an EV, as can been seen in the Chinese market.

Have you ever owned a Tesla? I'm going to go out on a limb and say no.
Of course I haven't. I've also never owned an MG4 or a Nissan leaf... I have however driven one and after I'd got in and been sick in my own mouth it felt like I was driving a mediocre jelly mould. yay. But hey the way the screen could show a van or a car was beside you that was incredible..... Yawn.

It's odd how the electric car scene seems to be a leveller for cars... A tesla is as quick 0-60 as a taycan and therefore its comparable? That's not the case. There is soooo much more to a car. A civic type R isn't far off the pace of a 911 or a RS4; but we don't compare them do we?

I have been lucky enough to drive a number of prestige cars and the handling dynamics of my GTS are exceptional; they just are. Yes they depreciate like a brick and have some issues (speak to a McLaren owner about that) but its a special place to be. A tesla is not. Not at all.

Coming back to the PCM. I'm more than happy with the tech in my car. Like I say; tesla can keep their fart noises... I'd rather drive a car than a toy.

The way you speak of Tesla showing vans or making fart noises, is like talking about Porsche neodyme accents, or deviated stitching, or colored seat belts, or personalized floor mats, or colored keyfobs, for hundreds or even thousands of dollars. To get a full picture, you have to look beyond the frilly features (at least the Tesla ones are free ;) ).

PS> I would love if my Taycan could show me ANY car it sees when in ACC or Innodrive, so I know that it in fact is seeing the car that just cut me off, so I know whether or not I should be braking myself or the car will do it for me.

Let's talk after your 24' taycan gets through 4-5 battery recalls, totaling at 12-18 months on service time you won't drive the car.

The EV is an equalizer for all cars, yes. The market says so. You either have a good EV or you don't. Period. When people are talking about EVs, they don't say: "It's a good car / it's a bad car". They say: "It's a great EV". Because EV means more than 4 wheels and a battery.

And it's funny you think the taycan is a "prestige car". It's the worst EV Porsche ever made, and it will always be. Bring it back to Porsche, see how many cents over 50.000 they'll give you for it. That's what Porsche themselves values the car at. 50.000 worth of "prestige", the prestige of brake failure.

But it confirms it. You'd rather own a piece of metal in the parking lot with the Porsche logo, rather than drive it. And I quote Porsche: "meant to be driven". I guess you aren't the target consumer of Porsche, because if you were, it wouldn't sit well with you when their "meant to be driven" EV can't be driven.

On the other forum, people are complaining about PCM failure in 911s and 718s. How long until the taycan goes through that? How many people will buy another Porsche EV after going through that?

The fact is that they can't appeal to the EV consumer with their EV, and their sales are down as proof of that. Other EVs sell just fine in china, only german ones don't. So I guess driving dynamics isn't all that? And even in terms of driving dynamics, remain to be seen for how long they keep the crown. BYD U9 just landed at the nurburgring again and this time the talk of the "town" is that they are going after the Taycan GT record ;); after they claimed 3rd fastest EV in the world at 1/50 of the price ;)

Wow... I've stirred up Elons army here haven't I.

I do sympathise with you. Perhaps I look at this through rose tinted glasses but my GTS has done nearly 8k now and has never missed a beat. I also bought it post depreciation (Porsche literally gave me it) so unlike many here I can jump ship at any time and lose the same amount I've always lost on cars. In fact based on my last few cars - I'd lose less!!

Given the savings on tax, insurance and fuel it'll probably not be far off neutral. So (for me at least) the Taycan makes sense - even with depreciation..

I don't like teslas, sorry about that. My Taycan also hasn't broken down and my PCM works just as I want it to - sorry about that too. Oh and I wouldn't lose tens of thousands. if I changed car... So sorry I wont jump on the taycan bashing band wagon.

I think its a great car...

The fact is I went from a C8 RS6 (arguably the best wagon on the road) to a GTS ST and I've not looked back. That says it all really.

Love it.

The newer models of Taycan have updated hardware, the older ones like my 2020 are pretty slow and AA/CP takes FOREVER to connect when first starting the car. The new models pretty much connect immediately. Reminded of this every time I get a loaner.
