certainly from a UK perspective, security cameras are no deterrent to a car thief. Might give you evidence of what time of the day it was done and how many were involved. Faraday box at home. What I don't do is have a faraday pouch in briefcase. Should do that really if car parked near workplace. Ive started to use a steering lock.
I beg to differ. My neighbor had an attempted burglary (thief triggered a house alarm and took off), and came to me to see if my cameras caught any useful footage. We saw the thief, wearing a motorcycle helmet, walking on the sidewalk, past my house. You could see him (or her) starting to walk on my driveway, noticing the cameras, then changing their mind and moving on to my neighbor’s house. Worth noting that I don’t hide my cameras, they are not hard to spot, especially at night when they glow red with infrared illumination.

I learned long time ago that you don't have to outrun a bear trying to eat you, you just have to run faster than most people around you.

There are loads of criminals caught in CCTV. As in CCTV captures the crime but they are masked or hoodies and never get caught.

sure it’s a deterrent if some sort but a pro thief wouldn’t bat an eye.

I think security is a complex multi layered thing. It’s about multiple layers of barriers.

lock the car, faraday pouches, security lighting, CCTV, steering locks, etc etc. just enough to make the casual opportunist move on.

I put my keys in a faraday box when I get home and both Taycans have Autowatch Ghost 2 fitted. So even if they get into my car it isn’t going anywhere without the code

i think you’ve just got to make it as difficult as you can for thieves to knick it.

There is no security system which is 100% full proof. If a professional thief really wants your car at any cost, there is nothing you can do. I work in cybersecurity and I know nothing is unhackable, you can only increase the cost breaching security to make it not feasible. My home network is a lot more secure than an average home owner, but I don't kid myself about it being unhackable by someone with sufficient resources. As a matter of fact, I am certain a state level actor like US or China has ways to breach my network in no time, very likely they already have backdoors in some of the devices on my network (phones, PC’s, IoT devices, network equipment).

So back to the original topic of securing your Taycan; take reasonable steps like not leaving your keys in the car or valuables in plain site, make sure your insurance is paid, and don’t obsess about it, unless it’s your hobby and you enjoy going overboard on security, then do it for fun.

I will be getting a shiny new Taycan CT4 in the next couple of months, hopefully by the end of this year. I am interested to know what security measures I should take to protect it. I am thinking of a camera on the house, motion sensor lights. I may also pay the subscription for the tracker. What do you use? Your advice would be welcomed. Thanks

Ditto to cameras and motion lights and hiding your keys in a metal box.
Redundant methods are always good.
Place an Apple AirTag and/or a Chipolo
In the car that you track from your phone. I don't think they're a target, either. Plenty of Audi's on my block.

I’m intrigued by so many people using faraday pouches. In another thread it’s been shown that the keys disable their wireless radios after 30 seconds of no movement, so surely no point in putting them in a faraday pouch, as a stationary key isn’t going to respond to a relay attack? Or just press and hold the lock and unlock buttons for 2 seconds, which disables the key until any button is pushed - which would do just the same as a faraday pouch.

I had 2 cars stolen in a night-time armed robbery, in which one was recovered (crashed) and the other not.

The nightmare was the Mini Cooper S Conv (2 months old) which was recovered after a Police chase crashed in somebody's front garden with 8k miles on it!

It was just below the level where it would have been written off.
Turned into an absolute feckin nightmare over many months.
It got mended but had an accident recovered marker on it and we lost a fortune - and my girlfriend didn't want to even see it again, let alone drive it.

My R32 was never seen again (apart from doing armed robberies on false plates).
Insurance paid out full market value, quite quickly and I moved on.

So personally I wouldn't have any tracker even if it was free, unless an insurer insisted.
They don't insist on them because it's better for customers.
How can a front garden have 8k miles on it?

sorry.

Great point...I was considering the new RR Sport but went for the Taycan instead. Loved the RR, but I think that the Taycan looks better and is a bit rarer on the road, and I was quoted 18 months to 2 years delivery by the dealer at the time...!
Funnily enough I was in the same boat - though ended up with E-Tron GT as Porsche also quoted 12 months for delivery.

I had placed a deposit on a new RR Sport PHEV but after two price rises and still an 18 month quoted wait I had a rethink.

Decided to jump in to BEV rather than PHEV (no regrets at all there) and specced a 4S in Volcano but not to be and the big Audi was on my drive 3 months later. The Taycan / GT are in a completely different class to RR's and I couldn't believe you could get one for the same price as an average RR.

We dodged a bullet as well as Insurance has gone mental on RR's, only quote I got was £5k+ which helped in my decision. I paid £458 for the GT.

I believe electric cars are a turn off to most scumbags as they can't just fill up at the nearest garage if it has an empty tank when they take it off your drive. No good for long police chases either and most don't have the wit to know any different.

The green flash on your number plate (in the UK) is your best deterrent!!

I was quoted 18 months from LR for the RRS as well last year, and didn't have the most positive customer experience. When we went to the Porsche dealership, they were really helpful, and it really helped to sway my decision. Also, I loved the drive in the Taycan, although that was a Sport Turismo rather than the CT, but I believe they will be very similar. I liked the RRS, but felt it was too big, even coming from my X5.

I didn't think about the green flash on the number plate, thanks for your thoughts.

Green number plate stripe is a bit virtue-signally imho. I'd hoped they got you free parking or something, but alas no, so opted out.

I disagree, but fair enough. I think driving around in a big flashy Porsche (or big Audi) is probably enough signalling for most people.........

What virtue would that be? Love for high torque and acceleration? ;)
