Taycan Values.

I’m seeing a $20-25k difference between two equally spec’s 4S sedans (higher one is a ‘23 Mamba while the other is a ‘22 Neptune). My wallet says Neptune….is model year that big a concern, considering the ‘22 seems to have taken the bigger hit already?

22 is twice as old as 23, one less year of warranty, that's about it. Almost no differences in spec (there wan an option for dashcam pre-wire added in 23 for example). Software on the 22 can be updated to same as 23. 1 year old used cars are hard to value as there are not many of them available for sale, so they may add some premium. CT's are also a bit higher as they entered the market late and there wasn't anywhere nearly many of them produced to-date.

Thanks. I’m leaning towards the ‘22 just because it makes the most financial sense. Just “1yr older” stigma. I tend to hold on to my cars, so I suppose after a few years it’ll be a wash. Tho Mamba is first choice in my books…Neptune 2…small sacrifice I suppose. Thanks

Strange. You would say there is always a price for which it can be sold. Probably it was so low he did not want to offend you.

Quite possible. My 2 year old CT4S is already above 50k kms so I'm not holding my breath on the value. I have indeed decided not to sell and bought a new XC90 instead as second vehicle to do the larger distances. Price of a similarly equipped Cayenne was €50k more so not worth it imho. The Taycan is just too much fun to sell for little over 50% of original retail price after 2 years and I'm happy to hold on to it.

The news outlets were reporting poorer uptake of EVs than expected and quoting higher initial price then equivalent ICE cars as a major reason.
This may be generally true but in the Porsche ecosphere the Taycan looks pretty good value to me, the only remotely comparable Porsche, the Panamera, is slightly more expensive.

This is such a bizarre situation, the media is hammering ev’s and the general population seems to be hugely negative towards ev’s.
I just don’t see how you can expect to shift new vehicles when the used ones are seeing such massive depreciation. Had I known then what i know now i would not have bought my Taycan.
I don’t see how the Macan is any different, slightly more range yes but it’s still carrying the same baggage as every other ev. People will be going into a Macan ev purchase with their eyes open and if i could do it all over again i would be waiting for that used bargain.
Edit. Why should the Macan depreciation curve be any different? An suv is more popular but it’s still an ev and an expensive one at that.

You should assume any luxury sedan will drop 50% of it's value in the first ~3 years assuming normal wear. A friend's wife used to work for an insurance company and said general rule of thumb for cars, 20% drop in first year, 15% for years two and three, so 50% after 3 years. That has been the norm outside of the crazy pandemic situation. If your Taycan dropped more that that, there are probably other factors at play, like government incentives, high interest rates, economy slowdown. The largest depreciation I ever took was on a 2001 Carrera 4 which I sold at ~2 year mark, with best price I could get being under 50% of the purchase price. Porsche dealers were offering even less. It wasn't an EV (obviously) and yet dropped like a stone. Back then it was the dot-com bubble which first raised the car prices (though nowhere near the pandemic effect) the it burst causing the economy to slow down a lot.

If you want to avoid large depreciations, buy 3 year old cars at 60% MSRP (dealers will add 10% of profit).

I think the situation in the Uk is more dire than you assume, this is not a normal cycle. I have lost 50% in 12 months on a well specced 4S Cross Turismo with only 2500 miles.
Taycans are piling up in dealer lots, they cant sell new ones, i cant see how the Macan can change this.
The negative sentiment is directed toward ev's not the Taycan in particular.

Wow, half priced one year old Taycans with ultra low mileage! ? That is definitely bad. I feel for you, though if this happened to my Taycan, I would still shrug it off as I am not planning to sell it after a year, and the silver lining would be that the depreciation has to slow down as there is no way there will be 2 year old Taycans available for free, or even 25% of the price (50% of 50%).

It sounds like you guys have really huge government incentives on new Taycans in the UK, if they make it worth buying new vs half prices barely used ones. The predictable flip side of such high incentives though would be fast depreciation.

I'm currently looking for a used Taycan, the one thing that's become glaringly obvious is that very little people buying a new one were thinking of the next guy.
If your a dad trying to buy you want the 4+1 seat option, that takes your options down to 70 on Autotrader out of 700. Now if you also want a long range rwd there is hardly any available and I'm noticing these ones are selling and for a lot more than a 4S.

And there is almost no export market for UK. Is also not really helping.

Ireland is an export market for any vat qualifing cars as prices are very high over here or well priced under 3yrs as no duty due if it's going back to the EU, only trouble is Porsche UK won't allow their cars to be sold for export, I've tried buying two of them so far. No way will they sell it to me as it's going to Ireland.

Thye'd have a larger maret when selling it for starters. It's not that expenive and makes the car more useful. I don't really get the point of the tray between the seats.
