The Day Before 4S Purchase

Hi everyone, I am heading into dealer tomorrow and if all goes well coming home with ‘21 Taycan 4S CPO. Hard to contain my excitement!

While I will ask them to do it, I’ve read dealers in general will not perform battery SOC test when selling the car. For those of you who might have encountered this, did you just rely on warranty, meaning if it turns out you got one with more than 20% degradation you can have it addressed under warranty?

This is a great way to get into your own head for very little benefit. If you are buying a true Certified Pre-Owned Porsche from a Porsche dealer, you have nothing to worry about. Porsche CPO has tight requirements for vehicle condition at the time of sale and the warranty is excellent.

I would ask for a quick read of the SoH even if it is not the official procedure to measure per TSB.
If they deny, I would not worry about it, since it is a CPO, and do the reading yourself. Get yourself an OBD reader and a free app. We can help you with all that after you get the car.

I know you are excited to collect your 4S. I would encourage you to have the SOH performed prior to taking ownership. There are two reasons for this and out of pocket cost is not one of them, as you are under CPO and perhaps the original warranty.
The two reasons:
1) If there is a battery issue, you will be without your car for an extended period of time
2) There is a pending recall for battery issues, which has not been completely sorted out. Your car may be affected. See https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/high-voltage-battery-recall-expanded-arb6-arb7.21519/

In any event, good luck to you with your new to your 4S.

If there would be a recall not resolved, Porsche dealership is not allowed to let that car of the lot: Porsche guidelines.

Update:

In the idle time I had over the weekend I realized there are some pretty incredible lease deals in California on new '24 RS Etron GTs so I changed course and am going to pick up the Taycan sibling.. Wanted to get this update out before anyone else spent time providing advice.

I might be back when lease is up to finally join this great community. Thanks everyone!

Congrats just make sure you drive both. They may seem similar but they drive very differently.
