Interesting. Perhaps I will test it out
The test would be helpful…
as I had written earlier, it is very poor of Porsche if they have not implemented this change for a new car design while other manufacturers fixed this a few years back.
Will await your results…

Don’t worry about relay theft. It is easy to disable in the car if you want and the key is very easily turned off by pressing the open and lock buttons together for 2 seconds. Perhaps get some CCTV cameras fitted. They are easy to fit yourself if you are practically minded
Great tip re turning the keys off. Assume it’s the same two second press together deal for reactivating them?

Unlike most people on this forum, I’m in the fortunate situation to have something called “insurance” where I will actually get money if the car is stolen, damaged, wrecked, etc. Not sure if that’s offered in Western Europe. Please someone confirm. Over.

I have a flight to California tomorrow so I’ll report back if it’s offered there.

I have tested it out. I think the key does have a timer. I put it on the windowsill with the car outside and checked it worked. Went back 30 minutes later and I could no longer open the car. Gave the key a shake, put it back down and found the car opened again. Tried twice with consistent results.

So it seems that there is a timer that disables after something less than 30 minutes. I haven’t tried to work out the exact time. But I will stop bothering to manually disable the key when I go to bed! Just do that for any dodgy looking parking areas

I've got cctv. Trouble is no one seems to care. The crims just wear masks and the police don't seem to find them clear enough to be useful. At least you get to watch what happened i guess, but not convinced they actually lead to catching the culprits or stopping things happening.

Just buy a faraday pouch of of Amazon and make a habit of putting your key in it when you park it at home.

This was from yesterday.
No detail, but I still wouldn't get keyless in the UK.

The above article has an interesting piece…
A spokeswoman for Mercedes said: 'All new Mercedes-Benz car keys (Keyless Go) are fitted with a built-in motion sensor which means if the key is in a drawer or on a hook and is stationary, the signals of the key cannot be hijacked.

I would expect that Porsche had also implemented the same, as most other manufacturers implemented this many years back.
Poor if Porsche have not done this on a new build Taycan.
I also suspect that these articles are about older cars…

Quite a few faraday pouches fail after a while. Unfortunately you get a false sense of security. Some people at first may check but after that never check they are actually doing the job you originally bought them for. I wouldn't be surprised if a majority of people out there have even ever checked that their pouches are working.

Just get the tracking fob for £250;quid p.a. If it takes off with crims the trackers will ? brick it and call the rozzers. Would definitely recommend a pro elite steering wheel ? lock ? also

been using a faraday box since day 1 of ownership.
what you can do is enter the security code manually every time in PCM before you can drive away the car, Tesla does it same
