There are two camps of us on these forums, "NF EV tires don't mean sh*t", and "I'm only mounting NF EV tires." Debate is good.
With that being said, I've always liked this guy's videos as they are super technical.

Because of that video I'm dead set on taking one for the team and mounting those tires on mine (when it arrives). Further investigation revealed that tyre model got the best rating in Europe. It might not be all propaganda after all.
Don't really care it's not "NF".

It will be interesting to see if, in future, more of the Taycans being delivered have the respective manufacturer’s EV tyre fitted at the factory.

It certainly makes sense that the extra weight of an EV would require stiffer sidewalls to control cornering etc. Whilst lower friction compounds will obviously help with range, braking and handling would be more important priorities for me. Being quieter is obviously an advantage too.

I guess the Michelin Pilot Sport EV is designed for the Taycan and similarly sporty cars, rather than the Michelin Energy EV which is for more mainstream cars with a greater focus on efficiency etc.

Pretty fascinating stuff. You would think a lot of the noise reducing innovations like zigzagged pattern would be used already in tires optimizing for NVH.

3 dBA is a pretty huge improvement. I would be temped to try EV/"elec" tires in my gas car, but I do wonder how much of that is going from Pilot Sport 4s in a Model 3 (poor NVH control), to the Ions.

You might find that the extra stiff sidewall is too stiff for an ICE car with much less weight, adversely affecting the ride.

I think the point about optimising NVH on tyres for IVE cars is that there is much more competing noise, so making the tyres quieter might actually exaggerate other noises?

A very informative video, thanks for posting. And I must say, jibes very tightly with my experiences with tires on an EV over the past 10 years.

As an audio professional, I do need to quibble with one bit of math he's using -- and to be fair, he's making a VERY common mistake. Nevertheless, I will point out that in SPL, sound pressure, measurements, 6dB, not 3, represents a doubling of perceived loudness. 3dB is a doubling in POWER measurements*, such as watts, but not voltages or as in SPL, Pascals of air pressure.

So, while the change of 3dB SPL that he is noting is significant, it is not double.

*This is because the power formula is a square relationship, whereas that of voltage and pressure is not.
