With the imminent arrival of my car I'm wondering if it's worth having a tracker. I don't need it for insurance purposes.

Given the issues reported with the Porsche/Vodafone system I'm not keen on getting the factory unit.

Any recommendations?

Is it likely to be an issue having a tracker connected to the 12v system? Wouldn't have thought they draw much current.

Got a Porsche tracker and not aware of issues.

Also a Stoplock Pro Elite and you are good to go.

The PVTS is built into the PCM and works extremely well and great integration with My Porsche - why would you source an alternative?

The only issue I've had with the PVTS is that I have to remember to power down at the dash every time I step out of the car to open or close the garage door, to avoid getting a call from Vodafone, because I keep the key and tracker fobs in my pockets.

Touch wood, standard PVTS has been fine here. 'New' (is it 'new' anymore?) shape rectangular fob, rather than the original square one.

I guess you can always leave the fob in the cup holder to avoid this.

With or without PVTS the car will complain if the drivers key is not present.

I have the Homelink option to open the garage rather than fumble around for a remote.

Been around for years now.

Some improvements and if the SOC calls it's an automated service now to cancel or confirm an alert.

True, but I wouldn't trust myself to remember to take it out before locking. I can't even bring myself to leave my keys in the cupholder when the car demands they be put there (I know it's not possible to leave them locked in the car (without another set), but my security paranoia can still imagine some unlikely scenarios for theft).

If you want / need a Tracker, then there is very little reason NOT to go with the integrated Porsche version. IMO.

I have a unit with my classic VW Camper which is subscription free. Uses a mobile SIM to switch the shock alarm on and off. I also get movement alerts as google map links. So it's effectively a DIY Tracker. All it costs is the price of a txt message. The unit itself is around 120 euros and should last 5 years. I had a unit where the battery failed after about this time.

Hi Steve. I went with the Porsche PVTS+ system built into the car and it hasn’t caused a single problem since I collected the car.

Not sure what the reported problems are but, you can take out a year’s subscription and always go for something else if you’re still uncomfortable with it.

Glad to hear the car’s almost with you by the way.

I think the OP has seen the Vodafone/Porsche “bricked my car” thread(s) and that may be the root of concern.

He certainly has, although the number of people saying it works fine is encouraging.

The feedback is much appreciated.

Thanks!

You won't have any problem with your GPS Tracker.
I'm Sponsored by Carlock and it's been a Great product.
Just plugs right into the OBD2 and it's forget about it until you want to look at your Voltage, Location etc.
Amazon usually has the Best deal on the Carlock System.
