Goto
Settings > Tyre pressure monitoring >

Now change your Tyre Selection to something other than what it is currently selected.
Then select the tyres back to what it was originally.
(Make sure that you select the correct tyres)

The TPM system will now reset.

Now drive away.... and a few minutes later, you should have the new pressure values.

Dear Porsche

This is another area where you can learn much from Volvo (and no doubt most other marques). Even Audi!

Rather than have a non-sensical set of options (R1 Summer Tyre? R0 All-Season?), why not just have a "recalibrate" button? Or in 2007 Audi speak "Set Tyre Pressures"?

If you want to allow for changes in wheels, again 2007 Audi - "Wheel Change".

Perhaps also make the system slightly less sensitive to normal changes in pressures.

The option your software guys seems over-complicated and under-functional.

Other Porsches prior to Taycan had these options too so potentially a specific reason to change things on the Taycan perhaps.

As I compile my 24hr list of "come on Porsche, really? " items I'm not convinced ?

It has a feel of giving the placement year uni' student a project and them going to town... Down an unnecessary dead end!

I'm on my 8th Porker now since 2003 (Cayenne S) and observed the different implementations across generations and models - not had the privilege of a 911 (yet) but imagine it to be no different over the years.

Perhaps it's the evolution of TPMS and what it can / cannot do is part of the answer here.

It must be cheaper and simpler to have a one size fits all and in particular across a multi-brand parent like VW but apparently not...and so there is likely a rational explanation.

Rational explanation...it's not a Volvo, or an Audi (in which the tyre pressure is usually the same irrespective of tyre choice).

Summer/all-season tyres have very different handling characteristics and Porsche design their cars to handle and ride to the same standard irrespective of tyre choice (after all, why should you have to compromise if you need/want to fit all-season tyres?).

Furthermore, the Porsche TPMS system is more comprehensive than most because it is temperature dependant (with an allowable deviation before it notifies the driver - some TPMS systems show the tyre temperature, but don't use it for calibration).

To be critical of the system is to perhaps not understand it and what it is trying to achieve.

The options are not non-sensical, the tyres you have fitted will dictate the required pressure and hence the calibration of the TPMS. How is the TPMS supposed to know what tyres you have fitted if you don't tell it when you adjust/reset the system?

Based on the advice in posts above you'll have it sorted by now, which is the main thing ??

Do you work for Porsche? ?

"Change it to a tyre you do not have, then change it back to the one you have" so that the system recalibrates is a poor programming solution and not intuitive.

Is there only one "R1...." etc make/model of tyre? Different brands have different compounds, need different pressures etc. (Will do some digging). If they wanted to be really detailed about it, then why not simply list all approved tyres to be selected from (and a recalibrate button to stop the faff ?)?

Anyway, a minor irritant really.

(And I believe Porsche noted previously that they were revamping their systems team? So it's not as if they aren't aware some of their systems choices are.... Interesting).

Just trying to help someone who has clearly not read the manual.

Glad you're sorted.

Just buying a bare wheel replacement after pothole damage but it comes without the TOMS valve and sensor. Has anybody any recommendation on which sensor to fit? Does it have to be a Porsche sensor or can it be a third party one that says it fits the Taycan 2020-2025?
Thanks

There are range differences between 21” /20” / 19” / Winter / Summer tyres.
also these work with different recommended pressures. Note these are coded into the car as well to see the delta (over or under) from recommended pressure. Way more advanced than a Volvo.

Thanks for that. I am speaking to UK parts who say they can programme them - I shall supply full information and await confirmation before proceeding.
