Hey all,

Got a call from my dealer whilst carrying out some warranty work (cameras and wiring loom) and they informed me that there was some damage to the underbody protection panel and that it would have to be replaced and the batteries and coolant lines would need to be inspected as it's past the tolerance that Porsche allow - total cost just under $11k.

The dealer is going to provide me the article, but short version. There are 2 'impact' zones defined, one down the center of the car and the other moving to the edges of the car - tolerance allowed for the center is 3mm and it rises to 10mm the further you get from the center, as you can see mine was 3.33mm

I didn't hear anything when this happened and there are no 'drag' marks, it literally looks like something has come off the road and hit it.

Thought this may be useful info for others

If the batteries / coolant lines all check out fine, could you take it to a body shop and get the dents pulled out, like you would with any other panel?

Short answer is no - if that panel has exceeded the threshold then you need to replace, if not they will make notes against the car so if anything else happens as a result...well, we know how that's going to go

It's not undercarriage related, but I use these scrape guards for the front lip. Has saved me from bottoming out many times.

can you please show on this picture where these scrape guards are @Mr.Smith ?
and also, do you have lift function in your Audi and why not use that instead?
I do have the lift function, I go up driveways at angles as if I'm driving a very low sports car, but the car always scrapes, even on dips. For how inexpensive it is, you cant go wrong, especially if you have the Turbo S with the CF lip. They don't fall off, but if you got a bump hard or scrape hard, you just put another one on

It starts at the front of the lips and goes 2 more layers in. The scratches you see are before I used these guards.

I most likely would file insurance and immediately trade in for a gas 911 if i need the Porsche Vanity.

where do you buy them?

in the normal lift mode in my Taycan Sedan, which is lower than Cross Turismo, can go over bumps up to 21 mph without scraping and so programming the lift button to store to location wont even work because speed has to be less than 18 mph (30 kph). But for everything else, i program the auto lift function. Based on that, I was wondering why i would need extra hardware.

Where can one buy those anyway?

$11k to unscrew a few bolts, have a look and hit the inside of the panel with a hammer to flatten it out. I must remember to open a porsche dealership.

The sooner some porsche specialist garages start being able to look at these things, the better. Maybe they are?

Next time my car goes in, I'm going to tell them they're not allowed to look underneath it.

Oh and designing a skid plate with 3mm of tolerance. Great thinking that.

Some dealers (not just Porsche, saw it at Toyota too) in the US have a camera system which scans your car as you drive it into the service drop off bay. It takes pictures of all body panels (should you claim a new scratch or dent during service) as well as tire and any under car damage. It also checks tire tread depths. You can always decline repairs though, as long as you didn't tell them to start on something (e.g. if you told them to inspect the battery and there is damage, they may not put it back together damaged and let you drive off, you might have to tow it and re-assemble it yourself - liability issues for them to assemble back a battery which is damaged).
