Hey everyone!

I’ve got a bit of a weird situation with my Taycan Cross Turismo. After a small bump to the bootlid and some bodywork, I noticed water started showing up inside the trunk when it rains - specifically in the recessed area under the floor. At first, I thought maybe it was coming in from underneath through some crack caused by the impact. But honestly, that didn’t quite make sense since the hit was pretty minor and only the trunk lid got dented.

So, I decided to do a little test: I took off the decorative chrome trim around the trunk lock and left the car out in the rain (with the boot closed of course). After a few hours, I opened the bootlid and was surprised to find water pooled right in the recess between the lock and the lid, and it was already seeping under the lining. I’ve attached some photos.

Any ideas on how the water’s getting in there? Would really appreciate any thoughts!

search in forum or use google for rear trunk leaks, rear lid leaks. Here is one TSB https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2023/MC-10232438-0001.pdf
Bonsoir
In French sorry .. too hard for m’y poor English

Something else to look at: is the bottom of the tailgate wet? - as in: is water coming through from maybe the rear glass? Is the wiper hole seal broken or incorrectly fitted? You might get some insight by removing the trim from the inside of the tailgate and pouring water on the outside to see if you can spot where it's coming in. Get someone to sit inside with a torch to look whilst the water's poured (I remember doing this for my dad in an old Avenger back in the day).

Yeah, that’s exactly what I was thinking too.

The thing is, the tailgate trim panel is totally dry - no water running down or leaking from underneath when the tailgate is open. Somehow, the water seems to be gathering in the space between the door seal and the lock. I thought maybe it’s coming from the roof side under the seal, but that’s a bit odd since the seal is glued down, and if that were the case, the water would be dripping into the trunk from above.

Initially, I thought that water was getting into the gap between the tailgate and the bumper if the seal wasn’t fitting tightly, but that’s not the case because the water collects after heavy rain, even when the car is parked.

So, I’m planning to take off the trim panel and do a water test to figure it out.

My CT is in for water ingress which seems to have caused the control module to fail so the trunk does not open (it locks and unlocks ok). At the moment I know not why but ill keep you updated; should hear today or perhaps tomorrow.

I have an update, eventually. The current dealer thought is that there is a roof seal leak which then runs down the c-pillar and on to the tailgate electronics.

They think they will need to remove and reseal the pano roof and then change the tailgate control unit.

However, getting it booked in is taking forever.

The additional issue is that I cannot login to PCM as the car is not correctly communicating with the Porsche connect servers.

I so wish I had not bought the damn thing, my first Porsche. Never again!!
