If you want to future proof I would go with a Zappi. The ability to charge the car for free from your own generated power from Solar Panels is one of the most satisfying feelings there can be.

If not going Zappi, like a few others have mentioned then I would make sure to get a Tethered charger installed as the last thing you’ll want to be doing is messing around with charging cables all the time.

I believe the Porsche Mobile Charger Plus (and Connect) in conjunction with the Porsche Home Energy Manager also supports multiple energy sources including solar.

I think the Andersen supports solar as well although I don’t currently have solar

I think the debate / slight confusion here has been whether or not to source an additional EVSE over the standard one. The OP wasn’t clear that the car comes with the PMC+ (for free) and so no need to source anything extra.

As an aside I imagine than any EVSE with (or by addition) a HEM function will support solar.

Yeah not certain on support for Solar from Andersen or the Porsche charger but when I got my first EV just over two years ago I decided to go all in.

Setup is 7.8 kw Solar, Tesla Powerwall for storing excess solar/charging from cheap tariff during winter. Zappi EV charger that will use solar excess/TOU tariffs, Eddi (another myenergi product) that will heat up the hot water tank from solar.

All in all very happy with that setup, and think anyone who can afford a Taycan should definitely be looking at future proofing by getting the biggest solar system installed their house can handle.

If they weren't so unsightly I would consider.

Definitely not as neat as the Andersen one to look at but certainly seems neat enough to me, the tethered version with the cable wrapped up looks decent. I guess the main thing for anyone new to it all to takeaway from this is to consider the whole package.

The myenergi products work really well together and for me are the best out there when bringing solar into the equation. If it’s only a basic EV charger someone is after a lot of them do a similar job...but I would try to at least assure they can work with Time Of Use Tariffs as they are becoming more fashionable.

I was referring to solar panels being unsightly etc.

PMC+ and PMCC will work with a HEM and therefore solar so the option to future proof is there if folk want to leverage it.

Sorry to thread hijack but it is relevant to the discussions already.

I am also looking into the options for a home charger, I too didnt realise what came standard and so that has been very useful to know. I will be getting an electrician in to do the work but I wan't to be sure on what I ask for.

My current detached garage has power (for a double socket and 2 x lights) via a ducted swa cable but it only runs to a fused spur in the house so is on the main ring circuit. My plan is to run a new swa cable from the existing consumer unit into the duct and into the garage. Sticking in a new 80a RCD to replace a 63a one and adding a 50a breaker to that which the new 10mm swa cable will run off. In the garage I plan to add a 2-unit CU which will then have a 32a breaker and a 6a breaker with the 63a RCD to run the existing lights, socket and the new 32a commando socket.

This running the oem PMC+ I believe will give me 7.2kW charging capabilities at home?

What I am also keen on now is the potential of solar panels as mentioned here, I have seen Porsche HEMS that is mentioned but unsure what that is? So to factor in this requirement, would I need to look at the setup I have planned to better future-proof this?

Thanks

Not sure what country you are in but a dedicated fused spur 32A if in UK from your fuse box will provide 7.4kW for your PMC+

The HEM is a separate box of tricks which enables the combining of solar and non-solar power sources that you can control via an app. The Home Environment Manager (HEM) from Porsche will be part of the build if you stick within the Porsche eco system.

If you search the forum there is a good thread on how to set this up. You can do this at any point and other solutions will be available and so you won't be limited to Porsche branded solutions.

I'm not an expert here but there are basic building blocks required - in the Porsche world it starts with the EVSE (PMC+ or PMCC) to which you can then add the HEMS box to an existing or planned solar source.

For now keep it simple and seek expert guidance.

I think the reliability of CC is pretty well established. They’ve been making EVSE’s since 2006 and have a solid reputation as the one that “just works”. I’ve searched this forum as well as a Mini Cooper SE forum and the sentiment is consistent. Have also watched a fair amount of online reviews such as Tom Moloughney’s. As for the JuiceBox, a lot of people have had great experiences. Some have had issues especially since Enel acquired them. My garage will have a Taycan and a Mini SE in it so I will have both units that will load share off of a 50A circuit. But since I will have two EV’s I need at least one EVSE that will be rock solid and so far as I can tell, nothing is more solid than the CC.
I am waiting for my 22 to arrive in March but I just had a 50A breaker installed to a 14/50 NEMA plug using 6 gauge wire. I am planning to use the cord that comes with the car to connect/charge. No box!

Great, thanks for the info on HEM, will check that thread out on here.

This is our Andersen Ev chargers that we had fitted to a post. We couldn’t get the cable to the garage (separate building) without digging our driveway right up.

In a couple of years we will renovate the whole house so we will just move it then or just fit another chargers there

Almost looks like a proper design feature on a post like that @darth_maul_80 great idea!

Our A2 was just installed today, went for Steel grey faceplate and Laurac sand side trim.
Had a household debate about location as I think it’s more convenient on the facade but arguably too visible, so settled on the side of the garage.

Installed in just 2h, as the electric board was just above the charger inside the garage, very straightforward and already had a 100A main fuse.

The app is easy to use and all connected to WiFi etc in 2min, really pleased with this over-engineered milled aluminum box!
