Hi everyone, new to the forum so apologies if this specific question has been asked before. I take delivery of the Taycan 4S tomorrow, and am a little nervous about the home charge (the vid in my porsche isn't particularly helpful). I have a BP pulse socketed home charger installed, but no lead. The dealer said I would need 'public charge lead type mode 3'. I cant seem to find this, and on the BP pulse site they only have type 1 and type 2 listed (and all varients). Any advice is greatfully appreciated!

Thanks

Hi Alan,
The Porsche Taycan EV uses a Type 2 – Type 2 connection and is capable of using a three-phase cable to charge at a rate of 11kW.
I bought mine from evwired.com:
3 PHASE CHARGING CABLE – TYPE 2 TO TYPE 2 – 32AMP
5m @ £134.99. Very sturdy cable
More details:

  • QUALITY – Our charging cables are of the highest quality and standard. They allow you to charge your car from any public or home EV charging point. The Type 2 end of this cable must always be plugged directly into a charge point socket. This can not be used as an extension or an adaptor to a tethered lead.
  • FASTER CHARGING – These cables offers Fast Charging (11kW – 16A & 22kW – 32A) at any Type 2 3 phase socket public or home charging unit.
  • WEATHER & HEAT RESISTANT – With an IP55 waterproof rating you can rest easy leaving your cable outside overnight. The cables are also heat resistant for long charging times. This is where our cables are superior to others. Most EV cables are only IP44, ours offer greater protection from the elements meaning a longer lifespan.
  • INCREASED PROTECTION – Our connector plugs are made from hard wearing polybutylene terephthalate (PBT). The 5 metre cable is ultra flexible, lightweight and easy to store.
  • 5 YEAR WARRANTY – All our Products come with a 5 year warranty giving you the confidence that our products will last, we also provide technical support for the life of the cable.
  • If you are unsure if this cable is right for your vehicle use our handy cable finder or call us on 0330 0431329

The highest quality type 2 3 phase cable you can buy is actually from the Mennekes cable from Tesla! It's 7.5m long which does come in useful if you need to use it out and about. It's normally about £180 but they are selling it for £100.

I can confirm that Tesla are indeed selling these and deliver in a couple of days. £100 including delivery. It is a good quality heavy cable. I don't know if the extra length is needed as I don't yet have my Taycan - it certainly adds to the weight! Anyway, this is almost certainly the cheapest cable out there and looks to be very good quality. Thanks for the tip @grahamsimmonds
