Where you live is perfect for A/S tires. Some believe that they are terrible but the good ones work very well in moderate climates like yours.

Agreed!
Although A/S tires are often disparaged as "no season" tires, they really are the perfect compromise for most drivers whose climates rarely see snow and who are disinclined to drive in snowy conditions (no matter what types of tires).

I am borderline religious about snow tires. I grew up/learned to drive where blah blah blah, read about them in magazines but experiencing grip on ice for the first time was mindblowing. Last season I escaped with the all-seasons that came on the Taycan, and I have no doubt the weight of the car flattered those Contis.

I went up to Stevens Pass today, and had a really bad feeling about the iced roads (still on new all-seasons, but that may change soon). Saw an accident take place right in front of me (everyone was ok), and it was an uneasy drive back down. 20-odd miles on a steep descent iced over. I had marginal confidence that the tires would grip if i touched the brakes, so I kept a reasonable 35ish mph. The problem are drivers that ride your bumper but still won’t pass. ??‍ To me winter tires are literally peace of mind, and freedom of movement (to go up when folks can’t get out of their neighborhood, or to go down at night in a snowstorm, knowing I can stop if I need to). As always, asking for advice on the internet is not a great strategy, but at least it’s cheap. ?
