This may seem like an obvious thing, but since I have yet to lay my hands on a CT, I tried finding this information online but could not find any pictures or videos of the US model Taycan CT rear lights while the blinkers are on. Anyone who has a CT, are the directional signals on the back red or yellow/orange? Include a picture if you got one.

Thanks everyone! Do they double as stop lights as well, or are they dedicated directional signals? If the latter, has anyone attempted retrofitting the orange ones?

When driving in the US – I find getting used of blinking red direction lights – blinking dangerous!
I hate the red blinkers of the USA spec cars, it delays conveying the information whether the car is braking or deciding to merge into my lane, especially when the opposite side tail light is obscured by another car behind. I know yellow blinkers are legal in the USA, but most manufacturers save money by putting in the red ones (often using the the very same bulbs/LED's as the stop lights). I prefer to retrofit my cars to have the yellow blinkers if possible (Tesla actually uses the same LED for stop lights in the US, so cannot easily done :(). So the question for me is, are the red blinkers also used for stop lights on a US spec Taycan?

From a picture I took recently – I think the turn LEDs are separate from the brake lights.

I hope they didn't just turn them on for stop lights in the USA (like Tesla, which has a yellow blinker EU design, but software would turn on the yellow parts as stop lights in US, or so I heard). Hopefully someone else in the US can chime in whether the stop lights light up the blinkers too. If not, I can order a European part like the side markers and swap them out.

I'm guessing US drivers are not too hot in respect the dangers of driving on the 'wrong' side of the road in Ireland either :) Things you just get used to. That said, the red blinkers used to bug me too as never made much sense other than an apparent desire to keep all amber lighting/reflectors up front I guess.

The thing that bothered me about the red rear indicators in the US is that if you see red on the car in front of the one you are following you don't know immediately whether it is braking or turning so a potential delay in response.
I suppose it isn't something one would notice if you hadn't driven anywhere else in the world but it bothered me from the first time I drove in the USA (in 1970).

I don't travel to many foreign countries any more now though.

Amber lights for rear blinkers are totally legal in the USA. From what I read the red lights are allowed to save money for manufacturers and consumers by having less light bulbs total. Blinkers are also required to flash faster when burned out, but no such mechanism required for brake lights, so using same for both technically gives brake lights a burnout warning. The cost of course is less clarity in signaling. IMO these rules are outdated, based on technology from decades ago, like the regulations preventing matrix headlights.

Are these regulations handled at a federal or individual state level ? Or a confusing mix of both :) ?

Federal. The only state level automobile manufacturing related regulations I know of are California emissions standards (more stringent than federal rules), and perhaps whether or not front plate is required.
