I hope we will recieve the update on our taycan 2020 and 2021.... if you remember , the 2020 taycan recieved the upgrade to the same functions of 2021 models (for example wireless apple carplay).

Personally, I would be happy if they fixed bugs that are related to the car, added Android Auto and deleted all of the other apps (i.e., Calendar, News, Weather etc.). We can get that functionality through our phones.

That's what they said, but not what you got. Plug & Charge is standard on the 2021 11kW OBC, and the 22kW now got the upgrade. The 2020 11kW OBC still doesn't have it, even thought it is the same piece of hardware and the update announcement letter contained Plug & Charge.

I am still fighting to get what was announced, as this also enabled much better charging with once own solar energy compared what other chargers can provide.

Not sure what do to with this insight. The items being discussed are things that most OEMs would need to fix under warranty.
Not to mention that for many of us this is not the first Porsche and this DETRACTS from the drivers experience. Its almost a backhanded compliment to Porsche and its "new" customers.

"No honey, you look great in those jeans. I love a woman with meat on her bones!"...wait, what?

Interesting. Do long-time Porsche owners have examples of non-driving related things that Porsche has let live in prior cars? That would be helpful in expectation setting.
I can answer this...NOPE. This is my sixth...never seen this kind of mismanagement or delay in solving an issue.

I would have a different view though. I do not need Android Auto and could not care about it.

Weather as an app I can skip as long as it is not linked with the navigation for calculating routes, consumption and charging stops. Obviously if it is below zero the car will have shorter range etc.

Calendar I find veryuseful if you have several appointments with addresses in it. Quite easy to just click on it and get the address into the navigator of the car. Transfer via Connect…. ? you say.?? Well Connect does not work either so transfer that way is a PITA.

I am still looking forward to getting a Taycan because of the way it drives but it's becoming clear to me that Porsche (and probably VAG as a whole) is not a software or software UX company and they seem to be out of their depth. It's probably unlikely to change until they realise or are shown this.

The problem with writing such a note to Porsche would be good IF we had a very clear statement from Porsche that no updates will be done for older models. We do not have such a clear statement at this stage.

I think we need to wait and see an official letter or statement from them. At the moment we are hopefully just speculating.

A letter to them to request a formal statement on this would be good though.
You might be waiting for a while, particularly if lawyers check every statement/press release that they make - which wouldn't surprise me because statements like that open them up to liability.

I also sent a formal letter, plus email, to the President of Porsche France. I am giving them about a week to respond and if not even an acknowledgement at that stage it will be handed to a solicitor.
IMHO this way of handle these problems needs to be done unfortunately, unless you know the name of and perhaps have a relationship with the correct person to talk to.

I talked to my sales rep today and apparently they will start pushing out the new update for existing MY22 cars from week 7 (i.e. week of Feb 14). This update would presumably be done at the dealer rather than OTA.

I however honestly forgot to ask about older models, so I don't have any info there, sadly. I think one issue is still that MY20/21 have different PCM hardware than MY22, why it isn't just a matter of pushing out a new software update.

Reading a current German article on the update, it is very clearly phrased that Taycans in general will get this update. Also I remember months ago when they made a small announcement about PCM 6, that they specifically mentioned all Taycans will get the update. But, Porsche could still surprise us in a negative way.

Totally understand that some of these apps are useful, but each of the apps that I was thinking of (calendar, weather, messages) have substitutes in CarPlay and Android Auto. I was simply suggesting that if the cost of them fixing functionality that we cannot substitute for on our phones.

That is a very good summary of all the statements that I have seen.

It would be very strong if you could link these statements to original releases or documents from Porsche. Just to have all of this ready to include in a letter to Porsche AG.
They are all right on the myporsche page. Attached here in case they change the page.

looks like a "wait and see" situation to me, even though i'm not affected (my GTS will be build in march 22). I totally understand everybody who's p***ed actually, but nobody has hard facts at the moment.

Think Porsche will do everything they can satisfying early owners. Problem could be that older hardware hasn't enough CPU power to run some of the new improvements/features.

Just my $0.02.

Cheers!

New things will be in my22 p37. Mine was build in end sept 21, is an my 22 and has p36, says the technical genius at my dealership. Also importer confirms this. New cars delivered will be p36 or p37, will be introduced afterwards in other cars.
btw. : Porsche has installed a new pcm and 3 new sensors In my brand new car. And alarm is still going off.
i have 13000 km in 3 months.
service and support 10/10 by dealer, importer.

The Taycan will be my first (modern) Porsche. I just sold my Tesla Model 3 Performance, which I drove daily for the past 18 months. I sold the Tesla to get away from what is, essentially, an iPad on wheels.

The grass may look greener over in Tesla land but there were plenty of bugs, rough edges and “features” that just never worked reliably on my car. For example, the built-in Spotify app was slow, unreliable and frequently just stopped playing or refused to acknowledge any of my playlists, albums etc.

As for the car “improving” over time. In my experience it was basically a wash. I never noticed anything becoming faster or more reliable in the software. Things moved around a lot, making it difficult to operate the vehicle immediately after an update. Maybe the performance or efficiency of the car improved but I never noticed.

If I have to suffer the terrible house of cards that is modern software then the car should at least be great to drive. I’m confident the Taycan will deliver on that front.

That said, I sympathize with owners who are experiencing bugs in their PCM and think we should collectively hold manufacturers to a higher standard.

I’m hoping for the best with my Taycan but planning for the worst. This thread has been extremely useful and I now feel like I’m going in with lower expectations and eyes wide open. Who knows what new digital gremlins will be present in the latest PCM? Software quality doesn’t always improve over time.
