Agree 100% with your post. Just remember: If the product is free, e.g. G Mail, Facebook, etc., then you are the product. Last I checked, The Taycan Forum was a free product which leads me to believe that we (as in our data) are indeed the product. Face it, we are all part of the data-raped generation. Thank you Silicon Valley.
Hence, why I don't use my real name, only general locations and give vague public info on things like location, job, school, and never post pics of my 'watches' garage, house, trips I am planning etc. The proverbial cop from Home Alone is waiting in the wind with a full inventory and all your personal detail to strike when you are away and posting about your vacation. that and never post a pic of you personal license plate. All ways social engineering can put your financial life in danger.
I will leave it to the professionals with followers and allow the to make money of of giving up their freedom.

No thank you. Certainly not. To many jealous friends, colleagues and business contacts. Just here on the forum.

When I have a business meeting with certain customers or suppliers I take my wife's 12.000euro Opel Corsa LOL.

I haven't even told my best friend about the car, don't want to rub it in. Social media is a big no-no for me, I'm also a tech person and I am all too aware of the pitfalls. I didn't used to be that way.

Not that I want to turn this thread into anti-social media because there are certainly pros and cons, but if my experience is worth anything I deleted almost all of my accounts and I believe that I have lost nothing. I still speak to all my friends and stay connected, and have a lot more time to focus - and crucially fewer popus/distractions - on other more important things. I've not looked back.

As for this forum, no doubt "I am the product" but I've had help from people in this forum and have tried to give it back myself. I don't see that as valueless like a lot of the other SM stuff I used to be involved in. However I'm completely in control of when I look at it and I can choose my content consciously.

btw. for an entertaining, but worrying view, of how technology and social media could turn out very badly (and in some cases already have) I strongly recommend "Black Mirror" on Netflix. It's a good watch too.

Remarkable how few people here are on social media. I thought I was the only one.

And how so many are in the tech industry and give it a wide birth.

Reassuring. ?

Isn't this website social media, albeit pretty light?

Btw the car in red looks stunning. I hadn't even considered that.

For me would seem a bit braggy and don’t want people judging me. I already get the increase in prices when i get quotes on maintenance etc after they see my car.

Just purely out of interest and a bit niche, but I’m just interested to see other people’s experiences.

I mostly post family stuff and the odd holiday on Facebook etc and as much as I’d love to post some photos of my Taycan Turbo S when it arrives, I just don’t think there’s a subtle way to say ‘hey, I’ve just taken delivery of this awesome car!’

Did you post yours when it arrived or did you keep it low key? If you did post it, what were the reactions like?
I've started to shy away from posting stuff that comes across as 'showing off' on my social media account, especially acquiring a new luxury item, partly because it feels shallow and cliche but also just to maintain privacy.

When I did post about my car it was probably months after I got it.

Pro-tip: keep your friend-based social media sites limited to your true friends.

That way you can post about your new car with the confidence that your friends will be happy for you because they know how much you appreciate these kinds of things.

no, only on enthusiast site. Oh! look at my 150K+ Porsche, no way….Having a modicum of success/$ has caused enough people to look at me “different”… even some family members…and I’m not a “flashy guy” - to be honest, I contemplated even buying this car as part of me feels it’s a bit ostentatious and frivolous. I’m starting to care less and less, people talk either way….it’s very hard for people to “clap” for other people, u know who you’re real friends are when they are genuinely happy for you , so No social media for me ….I don’t want to be “that guy” , but that’s just me

I'm also a big fan of that "diversification" :CWL:

The biggest challenge with using most other cars after owning a Taycan for a few months is the giant rift in driving experience, build quality and general enjoyment!

Not to mention how much better-behaved other drivers are when I approach in the Taycan... in the Kia I find I have to drive much more defensively as everyone tries to cut me off.

My experience here in the UK has been the opposite in more expensive sporty cars as if there is a significant minority of drivers who resent its (or my) existence
