Oh! Huh. That's interesting. Was the car an import? Everything I've found about 070 seems to indicate that it's EU only?
Locally purchased, but Porsche imports all cars in all of Asia. Do they have any factory outside Germany? Maybe in the future, with VW, they might produce cars outside Germany, but with the resent very expensive pullout of a VW factory in North Germany, I don't think that will happen anytime soon.

They used to assemble 987s in Finland.

The best software engineers, hardware engineers, product managers, program managers, designers, etc in the world could all go work for Porsche, but it doesn't change the fact that they'd then have to start working within all of the constraints that "come with the territory" and are nearly impossible to change anytime soon. Particularly without buy in from the board on 9 figure investment. There's a "DNA issue" as well. In giant tech companies there's a "moonshot" mindset (now infamous in some cases) where suggesting "we should just build our own ASIC and bring all of that in house" is something that the CEO is likely to LOVE rather than kick you out the window for. Legacy auto? Not so much... ?‍♂
Well said. I’m a digital asic (custom chip) architect and we have the same or similar problem. The way I look at it, there are hardware companies and software companies. Each just genetically puts what they love first. Everything else comes second. It’s not a money thing. It is a genetics thing. Really driven from the technical leadership of the company. Tesla is SW driven company. They love the SW. Hardware is just what pops out when you press print on your SW model. Porshe is a HW company. They love the HW and recognize achievement in HW. SW that is close to the HW is good. But SW that is just to compete with Tesla is 2nd class. Developers don’t get the recognition in that area.

So if you want an iPad on wheels. Get a Tesla. If you want something that drives like sex. Get a Porsche. But don’t expect either to do what they don’t love, well.

Yeah manufacturing without a doubt, just interesting that Ive seen a few folks posting PCM info from Asia that have the "140" region code and all of the EU cars have the 070. That said, with all the parts constraints past few years, who knows ?‍♂

My car, that finished product on January 24th, is confirmed to have the PAD 035 070 main unit. And that would, as i interpret it, contradict the Feb 24th cut off date, IF that is refering to the hardware.

It's more likely we are dealing with an hardware change that has occured in the last couple of months, and in addition to that there are one or two "revolutionary" software changes after the introduction of the new hardware platform aswell?

That being said...as far as i can tell...we havent seen anyone with the new "PAD" hardware platform IRL yet?
the one in this you tube video apparently has the new hardware. He mentions it at 12 min 20 sec in the video.

My PCM was replaced last summer, due to inability to load Navi. Perhaps they slipped a German version in it?

As far as i know...you are correct....the J91 035 070 and J91 035 084 are for region 1 - Europe, while the J91 035 140 is for Region 6 - Asia.

Did you notice improvements (speed, fluidity, stability ...) with the AD version ?

Went to see my car yesterday which has arrived but will collect after 1 March. Dealer says that the update is software only but that it needs to be done at the dealer plugged into their computer as if it drops the Wi-Fi signal midway there is no going back with this particular update. No dates yet for when it will be available.

Since you have the Vin number can you check to see with PCM hardware you have? Outside the press vehicle I don’t think we have seen a “PAD” in the wild yet….

Here are the PCM mainunit partnumbers for the US and Eurospec Taycans:

2020-2021
9J1 035 070 - Euro with Digital Radio (DAB)
9J1 035 084 - Euro without Digital Radio (DAB)
9J1 035 092 - US with Digital Radio (SatRadio)
9J1 035 136 - US without Digital Radio (SatRadio)

2022
PAD 035 070 - Euro with Digital Radio (DAB)
PAD 035 084 - Euro without Digital Radio (DAB)
PAD 035 092 - US with Digital Radio (SatRadio)
PAD 035 136 - US without Digital Radio (SatRadio)

just off the phone with porsche support. They could tell me for my car, that it is available as a software update here late February or first of March, as a wifi update. I Have a MY2022. So lets us wait and see if its correct.. My fingers is crossed.
