You are going to have to be more specifics. Nav? Music? Calls? Etc

because answers will be most likely “depends”.

I was just wondering as an iPhone user like many of us. Would anyone still prefer to use the Porsche system or just CarPlay.

I am using CarPlay in my current car (BMW)

I am a Spotify / Apple Music listener and use Waze for Navigation.

But if the Porsche system is very good I may just use that. Also important because I am considering a Passenger display to complete the look of the car and hopefully get some use out of it.

CarPlay any day.
Im sure, taycan navigation wont be accurate as the API they use isn't from TOM TOM or GOOGLE or MAPBOX.

So, better to use CarPlay and use SYGIC maps or WAZE maps on the car play screen.

but the sad thing is - CarPlay navigation wont work on Taycan Heads up display, so again that add-on will be pretty much useless

The only thing I use car play for is Tidal music. Love the car Nav and voice control works great.

IMHO it doesn’t necessarily have to be vendor-specific CarPlay. But if car manufacturers are going to insist on wending critical functions of the car into the infotainment system (basically making it non-removable), then there ought to be some open API for external systems vs CarPlay & Android that are actually purpose-built for the task.

CarPlay sucks in this regard today for example because you still need to have your phone handy to swipe out a crashed/hung app, or get to app features that aren’t fully supported on the infotainment screen.

This way the OEMs can focus on delivering compliant hardware and maintaining compliance with the API vs turning out dreck like Entune or whatever the devil else is out there.

Can’t vote. I don’t have any sort of sound system in my sports car and hardly ever put the radio on in my main car and probably play something other than the radio less than once a month.
It would really p*ss me off if any aspect of the car - like delay in the sat nav working - was ever caused by anything that had to boot or needed to log on. That just spoils the main function of a car.

I listen to satellite radio (Sirius XM), but otherwise I use CarPlay for:
  1. Apple Music
  2. Spotify
  3. Waze
  4. Apple Maps
  5. Google Maps
  6. Calendar
  7. Messages
I answered ”Combo,” however, because I spend a reasonable amount of time on Sirius XM.

Understandable. However, if a 30-second boot cycle really bothers you, I would suggest that you not purchase a Taycan (or any electric car, for that matter) at the current time.

I use the PCM for everything but iMessage.
Carplay is my backup for when the PCM won't work, which happens a lot.

Are you sure Porsche navigation doesn't use MapBox? The Roads mapping App, by Porsche, uses both MapBox and I believe OpenStreetMap: Roads by Porsche. It would seem strange if this isn't the application being used for navigation.

CarPlay must be seamless and its wireless.
Did you face any issues with random disconections ?

Thanks, I may give up on one if it takes that long.

I‘ve never seen 30seconds boot time.
when you sit down, close the door, fasten your seatbelt…you are all set to enter your destination…
On the other hand, CarPlay has its own “logic”…sometimes it stars immediatelly, sometimes it takes a minut….or few, so it’s like a box of chocolate: you never know what you gets :giggle:
