Thanks for testing! Looks good. I wonder if a ski box like the Thule Vector alpine would have enough clearance. It looks that your box is on the bars but the Vector comes over the bars.
Yes - our box sits ontop of the bars through its profile - i looked at the alpine one and see the sloping design - i would go to a retail store where you could try a couple, but there is slope forward on the taycan, so think it would work.

I was looking at the Vector alpine too. Problem is it weighs 30 Kg. The roofbars will also weigh something like 5 ?? Kg. Max roof top weight is 75 kg including box and bars. So the leaves only 40 kg for luggage. That doesn’t seem like a lot. I don’t know what other roof boxes weigh.

I always use rough math for this stuff.. is the weight for structural integrity in normal use or in extreme cases like an accident? i would think its more accidents and im always thoughtful in what i pack and how i distribute the weight.

Can the Thule 9585 bars be installed and removed without damaging the Taycan rails?

I haven’t taken them off yet but all the contact surfaces are soft.

Just ordered these too and a Vector M ski box. I hope my car will be there in time to test them during ski holidays.

Interesting - I got my taycan 4s CT this weekend. All in Volcano grey and black... very stealth. I would like roof bars for a bike carrier and also also roof box. I was put off with the fear of the porsche ones as a few people have claimed the complexity of fitting and they mark the roof bars. As my roof bars are painted black, the risk is a big no no at the moment. As a result, I too was looking at the Thule WingBar Edge 9585B. I notice they do a M and L set of bars. I assume it is the L set?

If people have got on well with these bars Thule WingBar Edge 9585B and not had any damage. I will buy a set.

I would like to pair with a gloss black low profile roof box too. Probably the Thule XT XL Black Motion. However, looking at the thule bars they are low profile so will the box be able to fit?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide and what a fab forum for getting advice

Use the Thule configurator to get the right set.

The Porsche Roof Transport System is made by Thule I believe.

I think some folk hadn't read the instructions correctly and had fitted the bars incorrectly (they are different lengths) leading to damage.

I think also Porsche has improved their offering with more protective padding.

I have the 9585B set. Put it on this weekend. The set has two sizes of bars. I thin a L in front and M in the back. The fixation is with rubber straps with a thin metal core. I do t think they will scratch. I have the Thule Vector M. It not very big but it looks really good and I was afraid a bigger box would be worse for economy. Don’t have the opportunity to put the box on. But Thule confirmed it would fit and I measured with my fingers and I think is will. Should have a bit more than 2 fingers between the roof and the bar.

I have the low profile thule bars and have no issues mounting our box or strapping our xmas tree to it. enough space and a much better low profile look.

Fab - I will get the Thule bars in that case. I really didn’t like the ones offered by Porsche as they look like they are on stilts. I get that they want to leave a gap, but why did them make their bars so they are so high. The low profile look of the Thule ones look great. Ideally I had hoped for a set similar to the ones on our Tesla Model 3 - they are super low profile, whisper quiet and look fab. The Thule black ones look the best option for Taycan CT at the moment. Thanks all

I’d love to see pictures of anyone who has the Vector roof box installed too

The pictures I posted is the Vector M on our Mazda 3.

I stored the box on the attic now and is not really easy to get down. I need it this summer. I rwant to see the look and fit myself before the actual trip . So maybe I will do it earlier when I find some time.

I asked the Thule help desk and they confirmed it should leave enough space on the Taycan. I am sure the box will fit. I measured and the locking part looks to be at the lower level of the bars. The front end will be lower not the roof bend down so this shouldn’t be a problem. The actual problem might be the clamps fixing the box on the bars. But I think this should leave some cm.

Some thoughts : maybe @f1eng can answer this with his view on aerodynamic in racing cars:

in contrast with the Porsche ones they are not leveled. The posterior one is 2cm lower than the anterior one. When installed it bend down.

The space between the box and the roof is narrower with the Thule bars. Will this generate more sound and friction? It will follow the shape of the roof better.

maybe I should just put it in this weekend and test.

It’s been well discussed in other threads here. IMO you can expect 15-20% range reduction under otherwise same conditions, but it’s going to vary based on your particular roof bars and box. In my case I have the Thule aero bars and the Porsche Performance Roof Box. I use the roof box for winter ski trips, so there is also cold weather range reduction. Last winter was my first outing with my CT4, bars and box. I did not get too scientific about it - I did fine with a +20% safety factor on arrival charge in route planning. Keep in mind that the PCM nav doesn’t know about the roof box so it will underestimate consumption for a given route plan in your first few trips with the box on. ABRP has support for car profiles with/without roof box so you can double-check routes with that fudge factor built in.

Thx that is useful info. If have read about the 20% reduction indeed. Kind of hoped the Vector M could be on the lower side because it is quite small low and aerodynamic.

I will see this summer what I will get with the Vector M and aerobars.

My specific question was if for aerodynamics it would be better to have a small or large space between the box and the roof. Just wondering for my self if it would make a difference. And why Porsche chose this configuration specific for the Taycan. The bars are made by Thule anyway and so is the Performance box.

By the way if You didn’t have any issues with the space between fixation clamps of your Performance box and the glass roof I think I should be fine to with mine. The fixation is the same Thule system.

Regarding the smaller gap with the Thule low profile bars - yes, clearance is fine for the PPRB claws. About 3cm from memory. I place a towel over the panoramic roof when installing/uninstalling to avoid any potential scratches.

I don’t know how much of a difference that makes for the aerodynamics. I’m inclined to think the higher OEM bars are not high in order to improve airflow under a box, but rather to provide clearance for a variety of use cases of which a roof box is just one. If aero were an objective, those bars and their mount points wouldn’t be so chunky.

FWIW I did have a noise problem with my PPRB, and I did wonder if it had to do with airflow into the smaller gap with my Thule aero bars, but I think it is just a peculiarity of the box itself. I have to tape the leading edge of the clamshell to stop it chattering at highway speeds.
