The ordering and speccing of a new car which used to be quite a pleasurable experience is not like that anymore.....perhaps customers might be more acceptable of price rises and interest rate rises if Porsche could managed to give a far more concrete delivery window....dont say 12 months when you know it will be 24 months !!
Do you think the delivery will be more like 24 then? Christ alive ?

Couldn’t agree more - I’ve only been in a position to look in the lash 2 months and there’s been a 1% interest increase from what I can gather … APR can’t be locked in…
Hmmmm …. So am I right to think even if your despot is paid the car price isn’t locked in? That’s bonkers !
Correct. The deposit is meaningless and doesn't lock the current MSRP.

Definitely would’ve had this on my short list, if not for the, let’s say idiosyncratic front end…
It's grown on me. The I4 40 M Sport looks really nice in-person and that grille actually has an air of classiness about it, in a post-modern cyberpunk kind of way.

Both price and apr can’t be locked in until final spec is locked ….I believe
So give me your £5k deposit……..accept price and apr increases throughout your wait for the car plus we really don’t have any idea how long that wait will be when you hand over your deposit……know wonder folk are getting cheesed off ,!!!

It's half the price and BMW sales process is excellent. They actually want you as a customer.

Porsche could not care less.
...
It's worth keeping in mind that BMW, Mercedes and Audi produce around 8 cars each for every Porsche built. Even without all of the current external issues impacting production, I think that Porsche were overrun with orders exceeding their production targets, and they might not aspire to become a higher-volume manufacturer. The Taycan is probably the most extreme example of that, as it was one of the few premium EVs on sale, resulting in a large proportion of orders coming from customers new to the brand.

At what point in the car's production-delivery process is the price frozen? cheers.

I'm not sure anymore in these unprecedented times, but I think it would normally be once a vehicle is scheduled for production.

Thanks W - that was my understanding (hope) too - If that is the case, I beat the price increase by one week on the advice of my OPC - locking the spec down one month early! ......Phew!

Get a BMW I4 40 M sport instead. Test drive it.

You will be surprised and impressed.

Porsche could not care less.

The BMW customer profile is more likely to cancel as many overstretch themselves, especially with the cost of living crisis ramping up.

That means it's realistic to find a cancelled order, as I did yesterday. Paid the deposit today. Delivery end of the month. I never planned to ever own a BMW, but alas it's the first (company) car I have ever purchased and therefore owned.

I'm gambling it will be cheaper than a crappy ONTO rental and I don't want a crummy e208 or ID3; nor do I want a tired 2021 I-PACE at £1200 a month.

I'm also planning some Scotland/European road trips, which also isn't compatible with renting or leasing something, so this works out nicely and it means I have a lovely car to tide me over until my eye-wateringly overpriced Taycan arrives next year.
You are correct, I test drove the i4 M50 and a great car.
The iDrive or the infotainment system is probably best in class. Still has buttons for most functions, rather than everything touch screen.
Lots of positives… and I agree, a lot of car for a lot less money... but it is not a Taycan.

I have owned 8 BMWs in last 20 years or so, and have always received excellent customer service from my dealer. Was very tempted to get the i4 M50… was getting it at 0% APR too in May.

I was very very tempted…
But my heart was set out to try something different, so the Porsche. Although delivery is expected Sep 2023… I yearn and wait.

Meanwhile, I enjoy my M4…

This will be my first BMW and I'm looking forward to it, even though it's lightly specced. However, it's only interim before the Taycan arrives, so not fussed and also a good thing it's not highly specced, as it's money down the drain.

I skipped test driving the M50 as I was more interested in the range of the 40 M Sport.

I do agree with you though. There is something about owning a Porsche and the Taycan remains in its own class.

In the meantime, I wanted something classy and nice to drive. The I4 40 M Sport does that perfectly.

My guess is it’s MY related. Not sure if your lock is for a MY22 model or a MY23 model? Mine which completed build on Monday 11th July is a MY22 and when I open the Porsche code in the configurator it shows the MY22 pricing (around 4 grand less than the exact same configuration using todays MY23 updates).

So I think the price you’ll pay is the price it shows when you open your Porsche code in the configurator.

I'm sure BMW can do you a nice little monthly subscription package for options (or should that be software blocks) on the car...?

Price increases make sense in the context of how much the US increase was when the 2023 configurator went live. 2023 US RWD and CT4 was +$4k, so 4.8% increase on RWD, and 4.3% on CT4

If I recall, UK was only +1.4% on CT4 initially, so this additional increase changes it to match more closely with the US 2023 increase
