Hi,
I have the first service due at 2 years (only 8000 miles) on a 4S.

Looking to take to a highly rated local independent Porsche only garage, less than half the price of the main Porsche dealer, for the same. They only use genuine Porsche parts. Also, when I get to the end of the 3 year manufacturer warranty (in 12 months) I would plan to extend.

Does the car have to be serviced by a main Porsche dealer to maintain the existing warranty and be able to access the extended?

thanks

Porsche Approved - so independent should be fine if approved.

I would check with your dealership and your independent.

£700 or so for a 2 year service is cheap motoring -£350 per year.

I know what the dealership will say!

My understanding was that non-dealerships (any brand) could service cars and maintain warranty, as long as they follow the service programme and use genuine parts etc.

In EU at least, that is correct. And the info required to do the work must be made available to independents. Discrimination with respect to authorised dealers and repair workshops is not allowed:

At Brexit, most of this stuff was grandfathered in by the UK – but it might be worth trying to find out the specifics as it may have subsequently changed.

Don't worry, we haven't got around to changing any rules, except the ones that were to our economic benefit! Muppets.

They only use genuine Porsche parts.
As the Taycan is the most software-orientated car from Porsche (though modern 911's, Panamera's, etc, are not that far behind), the main thing I'd ensure they had was a PIWIS III machine and a current up-to-date subscription to PPN (Porsche Partner Network).

And not a dodgy knock-off one! https://www.piwis3.com/

With that they should be good to go! I'd love to find a tech-savvy independent here in Dublin!

All sound advice but check also that software patches are also made available as and when needed.

I am a bit anal on this given the huge dependency we all have.

Shenanigans we can all do without.

I don't think there is a 'Porsche approved' category for non-OPC servicing? Are you referring to using genuine Porsche parts?

My recollection was that, during the initial 'new car' warranty period, anyone could service the car as long as it was carried out in line with Porsche specifications and using genuine Porsche parts. Of course, by doing so, you might lose any goodwill in the event of any issues with your car not covered under warranty.

However, the official extended warranty is actually an insurance policy, not a warranty. As such those EU rules don't directly apply. In underwriting the insurance policy, Porsche (or their representative) can choose to impose any terms they choose, including a requirement for the car to only be serviced at an OPC.
Unfortunately I can't recall the exact terms of the policy.

When extending the 'warranty' an additional check (111-point check?) is required, unless the car is already under the new car warranty and has been serviced by Porsche (I think). It may therefore be more costly to extend the warranty if you choose a specialist for servicing.

Personally, on a car of this value, I wouldn't be wanting to save a few £00 on servicing when it might cost much more in lower residuals when you come to sell the car.

It's not advice, it's information that may not be fully accurate, just my recollection from a while ago, so definitely worth checking!

Shop around for service cost, I had 2 year service on my 7000 mile 4S for £470 at local Porsche Centre (November 22), had to gently haggle, so always worth negotiating.

Regulations may permit Approved independent dealers to work on your car and be treated "the same" as having the work performed at an OPC. What the law cannot do is force the next buyer to regard your car the same as a 100%-OPC-serviced car come selling time, even if they're wrong to think like that.

I would be getting my Taycan serviced at an OPC.

Only just seen this thread.

My 2yr service in March cost £480. It's just not worth the knock in residuals and additional 111 point check when extending the warranty to go elsewhere IMO.

Plus all the other points made - software updates, building a relationship with the dealer for when warranty work is needed etc.
