On Demand performance upgrades possible?

I get surveys from Porsche every so often as a member of the Porsche Driver's council. Today's survey was about existing On Demand features like InnoDrive and LKA, what I knew about them, what I thought about them, whether I had purchased them, etc. Near the end of the survey, they asked about 8 possible future On Demand features. Most were for things like additional effects for Sport Sound and ambient lighting, but a couple caught my interest.

One was a feature which would increase the rear wheel steering angle from 5 to 10 degrees for more maneuverability in tight situations. The other was an On Demand feature to provide a 20% short term power boost. Has anyone else heard about these possibilities? I don't care about sound or lighting effects, but a power boost would be tempting depending on cost. Assuming this feature would be applicable to existing models it would suggest that there is untapped potential in the Taycan drivetrain.

Not sure I could use any extra power in the Turbo. Maybe in a 4S I suppose - but unlikely to justify their asking price. It is pretty quick already

In normal driving, the existing launch boost could be made available on demand in short bursts (I think the Audi E-Tron GT already implements such a feature with the same hardware)- and the Sport Chrono dial could have the boost button, which already features on ICE models, reinstated.

I'm curious - was this in reference to future model builds or are you saying that this is something they could change/control with a software adjustment on current models? I guess I assumed mechanical 'stops' to current extents and thus any change would require physical tool adjustment but perhaps not?

Well we know there is untapped potential in the battery pack with only ~84kwh usable. Maybe a wild "temporary" range boost you can rent or something for the random emergency situation someone needs that extra ~25 miles of range.

Other manufacturers usually unlock this as a part of periodic software updates as more real-world data is collected regarding battery health. I'd prefer that as opposed to having to pay for it.

I think it would depend on the model. The GTS has the same motors as the Turbo but my understanding is that it is just detuned compared to its big brother.

I’d certainly consider paying a subscription to up the power in mine, despite how potent it is already.

Have the 20 sec Boost button in the Cayenne Turbo with Sports Chrono which is an awesome and fun feature. I was wondering why it is missing from the Taycan. It is clear now they are looking to turn that into a FOD.

It wasn't made clear whether the feature would apply to existing models or only future builds. Because the survey started by asking about level of interest in existing On Demand features I kind of inferred that they were testing the waters on adding new ones that might apply to current models, but I could be wrong about that.

I also received the Driver Council survey. I agree with your assessment. It was not stated if some new functions would be available to existing models.
My view on the survey's intentions were:

• Determine if users were aware that FOD was available
• Assess the level of users knowledge of the functions
• Determine the level of interest
• Assess preference to spec the functions when being produced versus to purchase after delivery.

It must be model dependant.
The power one can get from an electric motor and for how long depends strongly on how hot you are prepared to let things get.
The RWD has the same motor as the 4 and 4S in a different state of tune but must be running close to maximum given the performance despite consistent mention it is detuned. Maybe for part of the power curve, perhaps.
The 4 probably has margin but the 4S not much since it already is taking a lot more power than the 4 from the same motors.
The GTS again probably has a fair bit of margin whereas the Turbo probably not much since the only difference between Turbo and Turbo S is launch power and for that it has a bigger front inverter which none of the other models have.

So certainly any offering would have to be model dependant but I don’t see why they would do much of a change for various reasons.

I had a chat with my SA about this when dropped into the dealership last week. Totally makes sense, way more useful than launch control. I really hope they implement it via an update (the programmable button on the steering wheel, for example), or on the sport chrono toggle in the facelift update.

Exactly. The 20 Seconds Boost feature is just brilliant and much more practical in daily use (just press the button! with no mode switching business) since this is basically an all-out mode up to the limit that all performance systems can handle. This does not need to be 20 seconds in the Taycan but even 5 seconds would be very material when overtaking in particular.
