If there is indication that there may have been damage to the HV battery then I would think that the list of things that Porsche would want to replace would start tipping the decision into the "total it" territory. The Taycan is still new, so Porsche probably isn't going to want to deal with surprise warranty service or safety issues because they weren't extremely careful with their newly-written collision repair processes and accidentally let still-compromised Taycans back on the road. They are probably going to prefer if it gets tagged as salvage and never have to deal with it themselves again if there is any question at all about what may have been harmed in the collision.

One question is whether there's much of a market for damaged Taycans to get non-certified repaired/parted yet, though: if not, the insurance company might try to keep pushing for repair just because they might not be getting much for the damaged vehicle otherwise.

Edit: Another piece is the current supply chain: will the certified collision center even be able to get the necessary parts in any kind of reasonable timeframe? If not, it again points to more liklihood of being written off.

(this is all just complete, mostly-uninformed speculation on my part, though)
Thanks for the insight! I agree the supply chain issue for parts could cause this process to take an extremely long time.

Sorry this happened to you but am glad no one was hurt. I hope you were able to get the witness's contact information in the event it is needed. You should ask your insurance agent as to whether they can pursue, on your behalf, compensation for the diminished value in addition to the cost of its repair from the insurance of the party at fault. While this may not make up for the frustration and disappointment this accident has caused, at least the compensation for diminished value will offset the appraisal hit when it comes time to either sell or trade-in your car. I would be inclined to agree with DerekS that your Taycan may not be worth keeping, given its extensive damage.

This may be of some interest or value: my daughter backed our Ford into a Ferrari. She was parked in a lot and the Ferrari was directly behind her and she didn't see it, however, the Ferrari was parked on a spot that clearly said "no parking." The damage to it was in the same spot (but not nearly as significant - the car was drivable). Anyway,, we got our insurance company involved. The owner of the other car wanted us to pay north of $25K. He hired a lawyer and was very aggressive in getting us to pay. He even recorded my daughter admitting that it was her fault (she wasn't even 18 and the owner really traumatized her). Anyway, the point is I was very impressed by our insurance company and how they stepped up to defend us. It's not even a well known company but it has been over a year now and I think the Ferrari owner gave up. Bottom line: get your insurance company involved and make sure they do their job in representing you.

Good luck and count your blessings. As another poster said, its just a car.

I'll go out on a limb here and speculate that the car is a write-off headed for salvage auction. As others have mentioned in this forum before, even the slightest fender bender usually ends up with multiple suspension components being changed. Your photos indicate that the impact was rather violent and I wouldn't be surprised if structural integrity was compromised. Those airbags alone will cost in excess of $10k to replace, never mind changing all the suspension all around, fitting it, structural integrity checks. Even if all of this gets fixed, your car will suffer permanent impairment on residual value because of such extensive damage.

All of this will take months to fix, so most likely the insurance will want to write it off and claim on the insurance from driver that ran into you.

You may want to start the configurator for a new car....

Porsche owners tend to overindex on the side of complete replacement, so that will be the overwhelming opinion of those here. As a general rule, we prefer our cars to be pristine and undamaged.
Like everyone else, this is complete speculation, and hard to know anything without seeing underneath, but the car appears to be very fixable especially given the total value of the car.
But ultimately will come down to are you okay with a repair and how much you want to push the insurance company.
Best of luck and glad you guys are safe.

It’s more than that. The way Porsches are designed and the chassis are bonded and welded make them much more difficult to repair if there is structural damage. Hence why they are written off so often with fairly moderate visible damage. There was a great thread on Rennlist on this topic called ‘So you think it’s just a bumper repair.’

if the airbags go off is it considered salvage? based on a recent accident I would imagine your repair bill will be over 75K (insurance) but maybe the insurance co salvages it pays you out

Thanks everyone again for the insight.
One thing I noticed in some of the photos is the airbags caused the stitching to come undone in the front passenger and back passenger seats. If the seats have to be replaced with red deviated stitching, this sounds like a pretty expensive part to replace.

- Hood/Bonnet
- Bumper
- Fender/Wing
- FR Matrix (or is it just LED?)
- 4 Rims (Because Porsche won’t sell you just one)
- Airbags
- Stitching and whatnot
- ? Suspension
- ? Steering rack
- ? Internal cooling system (there’s a lot of piping at the front behind and in front of the motor)
- ? HV Battery
To me personally it looks like a total loss.

Update: We visited the car today and it no longer powers on. At the accident, the car had 53% battery left. We visited it today and within 24 hours does not power on (pretty worrisome).
Let me try to alleviate some of that worry. That is to be expected, and is no indication of the HV battery damage. In any serious accident, EV's blow a pyro-fuse inside the HV battery, like an airbag. This effectively disables the HV battery. It is done so that the HV battery doesn't electrocute passengers or first responders, since in an accident wires can get cut as the car gets mangled. Once the HV battery is disabled, the 12V battery drains fairly quickly, since it cannot be replenished from the HV battery, and car stops powering on.
