I have a question for the group. For the folks that have had their heater go out, were you using the HVAC system in normal mode or in eco mode? I wonder if that makes a difference. In reading the different threads it seems the units or something in them are overheating and failing when it is really cold or a lot of heat is needed. I have a 2022 CT4 with about 16K miles and run mine in eco mode 100% of the time and fingers crossed, no issues yet. I think it reduces the output of the heater unit, so maybe that helps.
just thought I would throw that out there to see if other are doing the same.
I was using it in normal mode and pre heat regularly in cold weather.
I have the newer HV heater after the repair. Tbh I would rather have the new heater than always keeping it in eco until that one time you don’t because it is too cold.

The temperature control system is far from just cabin heating, in fact the power needed to warm the 600kg traction battery up to an efficient working temperature in winter may be hundreds of times more than warming the cabin.

I don’t know what specific to this version of the heater is the problem but Webasto have been making similar looking heater modules powered in various ways for very many years.

I suppose this will be the first version powered by 800V DC - if it really is - it is called the high voltage heater, and other models will be 12 or 24 volt I would guess.

Got to say without any doubt I have totally lost all confidence in the Porsche Taycan the amount of electrical problems and time off the road are a discrace.

So lost all heat contactacted dealer who advised to call Porsche assist and tell them car heating broke and cannot demist screen they will then recover car and sort hire car out. I did this process was ok apart when the recovery truck turned up he said not another he has collected several already this month for same issue. Then hire company trying to put me in a VW Polo which I rejected and got a 3 year old well used BMW 5 Series.
I am informed parts needed are on back order probably 4 to 6 weeks

we will see how quick it turns out to be one thing for sure I have had 7 Porsches over the years 2 Taycans and I will never buy another as reliability for such a premium brand is a joke.
Very sad... my number 2 is on it's way... it had better be reliable or I'm off.

What year is your Taycan? How long did its original heater work?

My 2022 4S heater died in December with 4,000 miles on the odometer. It has only been driven in mild California weather. I finally got it replaced yesterday after the backorder delays. So….i dont put much faith on the theory that failures are caused by extremely cold weather.

i hope i got a new version of the heater and don’t have to go through this again!

What other brand? MB are seriously bling and have issues. Audi are the same bits. I think Porsche may be getting sorted!
Range Rover for me or even back to Tesla as both way better in my opinion just fed up with Porsche and the service

I have 2 neighbours with Tesla and one with Range Rover, all are envious of the lack of problems I have had in comparison to them.

Owning a Range Rover and a Tesla a few years ago now never had any problems with them my Porsche Taycan Turbo 2022 has been of the road over 16 weeks last year with 7 different issues all needing new parts hence the reason I hate the car and Brand never thought I would say it after so many Porsches you have been very lucky or have a super Dealer

You also seem to have a healthy hatred for punctuation.

My (not too serious) take:

The heater is designed to get hot. But it gets too hot.

So it's either too good at its job (gets too hot) or its over engineered (gets too hot).

So why not get the people who used to make the electrics for French/Italian/BL cars in the 70s to knock a heater together.

If the heaters on some of my old cars are anything to go by, you will be lucky if it gets even slightly warm.

And if it breaks, you can fix it yourself with a bit of tape and the foil from inside a cig packet.

?

I have a 2020 Taycan 4S with 11,878 miles on the odometer, bought new and collected on September 9, 2020.

No electrical fault errors, or software issues. As of March 19, 2023, the heater does not work. Looks like there is definitely a quality issue with the HV. Hoping my local dealer can obtain the part.
